The crowd roared as Nya was pushed into the arena. She blinked against the brightness, her eyes unused to the sun after two whole days in her dark cell. The putrid smell of blood and human waste flooded her senses, and Nya fought back the urge to gag. Across the arena, she caught a glimpse of red hair. Her eyes adjusted and there was Jordana, a smirk plastered onto her face, her hands dripping with blood as she leaned casually against a spear. She watched the remains of Jordana's last opponent as it was carted away by jumpy attendants. Nya's entire body began to shake with rage as she remembered the scene she had witnessed the day before.

Nya stopped pacing as she noticed a couple on the catwalk above the prisoner's cells. The boy was crouched on the ground, a girl with long red hair standing over him, offering a hand to help him up. She felt a wave of grief as she observed the two of them together. She felt Jay's absence so strongly that it felt like a physical blow. She wished more than anything that Jay was next to her, that she could hug him and tell him everything would be alright. They could get through his memory loss. Nya would patiently help him remember their life together, and they would rebuild what the Merge had broken. She watched as the girl gently pushed back the boy's hair from his face, and Nya's heart stopped. The half formed hopes that were swirling in her head shattered. She knew those eyes. They were his eyes. Her vision tunneled as she watched Jordana throw her arms around Jay, watched as her boyfriend hesitantly hugged her back. Nya could not find air. She felt like she was stuck in her worst nightmare, forced to watch the love of her life hold someone else. Rage and pain ripped through her chest, pressure building as the world went red.
I'm going to kill her," Nya thought furiously, glaring at Jordana. As if she could feel Nya's rage, Jordana looked over Jay's shoulder and made eye contact with Nya. She smirked, pulling Jay even tighter.
THAT'S IT, Nya screamed in her head. SHE IS GOING TO DIE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY IN THAT ARENA.
She watched helplessly as Jay and Jordana walked away. Nya screamed in frustration. The other prisoners paid no attention as she slammed the bars and screamed again. Someone was always screaming or banging on their cells. The rage swirled inside of Nya, poisoning all logical thought or self control. He was so close, yet she was helpless sitting there in the cell. A sudden wave of grief and dread suddenly overpowered her anger, as the memory of her boyfriend hugging Jordana back replayed again and again in her mind. The thought she had been avoiding pushed itself into the forefront of her mind.
What if he loves her? She sank to the floor, the weight of the unanswered question pushing her to the ground. Nya stared up at where he had been, the catwalk blurry from unshed tears. She had always assumed that once they found Jay and brought him back, he would want to rejoin his family. Everything could go back to the way it was. Nya and Jay could build the life they had planned together, the one they had whispered in the middle of the night in fear that the universe would yank them apart again if they dared to wish out loud. They had been foolish to believe the universe would let them be that happy. The possibility that there was a chance he wouldn't want to come back to her, even if he had the choice, was enough to shatter her.

Here was the girl who was the cause of Nya's fear and heartache. The sorry excuse for a human being who took advantage of her boyfriend's confusion, wiggling her way into his arms at his lowest point. Nya never wanted to kill someone more than right now. She felt a smile stretch across her face and watched as Jordana's smirk melted, the other girl's eyes widening as she realized Nya wasn't in the mood to be a hero. The two girls circled each other cautiously, silently sizing each other up. Jordana muttered something under her breath and her hands began to glow. Nya dodged the green ball of magic just before it struck her in the chest. After that, there was no more caution or hesitation. Nya launched herself and the red haired girl, landing a hard blow to her face that made a satisfying crack. Nya grinned as Jordana fell backwards, her spear thrown away from her. Jordana scrambled quickly to her feet, cursing as she wiped away the blood that was pouring from her nose. She muttered a quick spell and suddenly the discarded spear was flying towards Nya's head. The water ninja expertly dodged the weapon, using her momentum to land another blow to Jordana's stomach. Jordana doubled over, gasping for breath.
"Jordana!" Someone yelled from the crowd. Nya recognized the voice and spun around, her eyes scanning the crowd wildly until landing on him. Jay sat in a box with Cinder that had large, floor to ceiling windows. They made eye contact and Nya's heart sank at the concern and rage in his expression. He glared at her, hatred evident in his features. Jordana took advantage of Nya's distraction and recovered, quickly forming a spell that hit Nya squarely in the back. Nya collapsed, her muscles not responding to the screaming demands of her mind.
GET UP GET UP! she screamed at her disobedient limbs, but they remained stubbornly still. She was stuck, helpless to defend herself as the red haired girl stalked towards her. Jordana stood over Nya's limp form, smirking triumphantly.
"Hello Nya," she purred, leaning close to Nya's face. Nya spat, and Jordana glared at her. "No one likes a sore loser," she tutted, relishing the look of rage and helplessness on her opponent's face.
"I HATE YOU!" Nya screamed at her, and Jordana laughed.
"Well Jay certainly doesn't," she taunted. "You're the one he hates. How could you betray him like that? Letting him be tortured for years in the Administration?" Nya's mind raced. Tortured? For years? She hoped that Jordana was lying, but something told her the witch was telling her the truth.
"I didn't betray him," Nya growled. "You're the one who lies to him every time you open your mouth." For a second, Nya saw something like guilt flash across Jordana's face. It was gone so quickly she was sure she imagined it.
"Well he does love my mouth," Jordana crooned, her smirk returning firmly to her face. "He tells me everyday when we-" Nya screamed, blocking out the rest of Jordana's taunts. She felt a pressure building in her gut, the pain so intense she wanted to pass out. Nya gave into the pressure, drawing power from her rage. Then she released it all on the girl towering above her. Her limbs became unstuck as a rush of water burst from the arena floor. Jordana tried to surround herself with a bubble of magic but the force of the water washed away her attempt. In a single moment, Jordana was on the ground, gasping for air as Nya stood above her. Enough water to completely crush someone hovered above Jordana's head, ready to crash down at the smallest flick of Nya's hand. Jordana's eyes were wide with fear as she watched the enraged Nya glare down at her.
"DON'T. TOUCH. MY. BOYFRIEND." Nya growled, her voice so full of anger Jordana flinched.
"He'll think you're a monster if you kill me," Jordana whispered, her voice shaking slightly. Nya shrugged.
"He already does thanks to you," she spat. Jordana's screamed as Nya smiled, and the water above their heads dropped.
