Deuce gave a small chuckle, his eyes glinting in the light. "Ace is right. You should take it easy after everything that happened yesterday."
Yuu nodded. "I'm just happy to be back to a regular day. Nothing too crazy, just classes and... well, whatever comes after."
Grim, between bites, chimed in, "Just as long as there's more bacon in the future. I could get used to this normal stuff."
The conversation flowed easily, and Yuu felt herself relax into the ordinary rhythm of the day. No looming threats, no strange forces pulling at the edges of her mind—just friends, food, and the campus around them.
Then the bell rang, signaling the start of the first class of the day. Yuu, Ace, and Deuce walked together, heading toward the building where their first lecture would take place. The halls were full of students, and everything felt perfectly normal. The sound of shoes clicking on the floor, the quiet murmurs of conversation—these were the things Yuu had learned to find comfort in.
In the classroom, the professor began speaking, and Yuu immediately focused, her pen poised to take notes. The lesson was on magical theory, and the professor was explaining the intricacies of element manipulation. Ace, though he was sitting near the back, appeared completely uninterested, his head resting on his hand as he half-listened, half-dozed off.
Deuce, on the other hand, was fully engaged. He was jotting down notes with precision, his brow furrowed in concentration. Yuu could always count on him to be the responsible one in the group.
"Are you really going to sleep through this whole class, Ace?" Deuce whispered, glancing over at him.
"I'm not sleeping," Ace muttered, though it was clear by his slouched posture that he wasn't exactly paying attention.
Yuu shot him a knowing look but didn't say anything. She was too focused on the lecture to tease him right now.
As the class progressed, she found her mind wandering just slightly, thinking about how... well, normal everything felt. There was nothing extraordinary happening today. Just classwork and the occasional joke from Ace.
Then, a slight rustle near the door caught her attention. Leona, looking as cool and indifferent as ever, entered the room, his eyes briefly scanning the students before he made his way to an empty seat near the back. He didn't acknowledge anyone directly, but Yuu couldn't help but notice the way his gaze lingered on the professor for a moment too long, as if sizing up the situation. His presence always seemed to command attention, even without him trying.
Professor Crewel, who had been keeping a sharp eye on the clock, let out an audible sigh, clearly displeased by the late arrival. "Well, well, if it isn't Leona Kingscholar, gracing us with his presence at just the right time." His voice was dripping with sarcasm as he glanced over his glasses. "Late again, Kingscholar. You're a real bad dog, aren't you?"
Leona smirked lazily, unfazed by the professor's reproach. His blazing green eyes glinted with amusement as he leaned back in his chair. "Bad dog, huh?" He crossed his arms with a nonchalant shrug. "Actually, Professor, I'm more of a cat."
The class stifled chuckles at his boldness, but Crewel's scowl deepened, though there was a hint of admiration behind it. "A cat, huh?" He sighed dramatically. "Then maybe you should start showing some of that feline grace and actually show up on time."
Leona simply shrugged again, that same smirk never leaving his face. "I'll be on time... when it suits me."
The rest of the class continued without another word, but the subtle exchange had added a new layer to the otherwise uneventful day. Yuu couldn't help but shake her head with a small smile. Leona had a way of making even the most mundane situations seem... well, himself.
