"Returning gifts for money seems wrong especially when we don't need it."
He shrugs, "Whatever you want to do. If it's not going to get used by us or anyone we know. I don't really want it sitting around the house."
"I don't either. I'll figure it out later."
He puts his hands on my shoulders, "Yeah, it's late. Let's go to bed."
I stand up from the floor, "How was your game?"
"Homered today."
"Yeah?"
"Gotta get back to it at some point."
He hugs me, "Did she destroy the living room?"
I laugh, "I say that one time, and now you ask me every day."
"I just find it hard to believe that someone so little can do a lot of damage."
"How about you stay home with her all day and I go play baseball so you can see for yourself?"
"Unfortunately, if you're playing baseball, I need to be present to see it happen."
"I played softball. I have experience."
"Yeah, until you got a concussion."
"One time."
"Two. You've had two."
"Thank you for making me relive that," I say joking.
"You're past it. It's old news."
I hold onto his arms as he kisses me. "Can you crack my back?"
"You don't have a bad back."
"I chase your daughter around all day. I deserve it."
I put my arms around him. He doesn't get a choice. He's doing it. He lifts me off the ground and bends back to stretch my back.
My back pops in a few places. That felt amazing. He sets me on the floor, "Thank you."
He kissed me as I still hugged him. "You're welcome."
Walking our wedding thank you's to our mailbox, Christian pulls into our driveway. "Mali, come here," I say.
She walks over to me, allowing Christian to pull further into the driveway and the garage. "Dad's home," I tell her.
Once he's parked, I let go of her hand. She runs up the driveway to him while I walk to the street. I put the multiple envelopes in our mailbox after grabbing the mail from today. I put the flag up before walking back to the house.
They wait for me behind Christian's car. I finger through our mail and determined most of it was junk. I toss the junk mail in the garbage bin. There is a letter from Abby's office so I'm curious to see what it is. I haven't talked to her in a while. I should though.
"More junk?"
I slap my hand with the envelope, "Not this. It's from Abby's office."
"What is it?"
"I don't know."
I stand by him as he puts an arm around me, "Ooh, you're still sweaty."
"Well, it is 95° out."
He puts Amalia down and she goes back to playing with her sidewalk chalk, "So I take it that she finally likes warm weather."
"Let's not jinx it. I had to bribe her out here."
"With what?"
"An M&M."
"Smart."
He pinches at my side, "The Braun's are still in town and they're wondering if we want to do dinner."
