Y/N

My mouth was still gaping as I let everything sink into my brain. What the hell just happened? The last thing I remember was being lunged on by a fox spirit before it all suddenly turned white and the next thing I know, I was already here. And I'm not even sure where 'here' is.

"W-what was that?" I turned to Xiao Lu to see her nonchalantly brushing off dust in her clothes.

"What?"

"That! You just yelled out some crazy words and then suddenly we're here! Where even is 'here'?" I pointed out.

"That was the portal spell. To get us here - sanctuary." She spoke slowly as if she was talking to a child and I would have been annoyed but I was merely too amazed with all these happenings to really mind.

That... was a spell? So that means that she's not just a regular human. My eyes were wide as I looked at her in pure wonder. I wonder what she could possibly be. Maybe a witch? I mean, that would explain the dark clothes. Plus, aren't witches known for spells? What she did back there was a transportation spell.

"Wait..." I held up a hand as I realized something.
"What is it now?" She let out a sigh and gave me an exhausted look.

"All this time, you know how to do a spell to transport us here," I started before taking a deep breath. "Yet you still made us run for our lives back there?!" I yelled, making her flinch back.

"Stop yelling or I am going to send you back there!" she bit back, annoyed as she glared at me, causing me to reel back slightly. "And the portal spell does not work just like that, we had to be at a portal."

"Oh... well, why didn't you say sooner?" I gave her a sheepish look and awkwardly turned from her narrowed eyes.

I panned my eyes around, taking the time to look at my surroundings. What do you know? It's all just more trees. This time just even older than the ones back in the forest we were in. My head tilted to the side as slowly, one by one, small lights started blinking in the air. Fireflies, I realized. My mouth gaped as they flew deeper into the trees, lighting up the space around them in a warm golden light.

"Woah... this is sanctuary?" I breathed out. How amazing...

"No," I heard Xiao Lu say before her hand landed on the top of my head and made me turn. "That is sanctuary," she said, her voice proud as she pointed.

I followed her finger and if not already, my mouth gaped even more. A few yards ahead of us was a castle. It's like a literal castle that I only see in movies and fairy tales. Surrounded by towering gold gates was a pristine white castle. Its towers reached high and into the cloudy sky and even from afar, the silhouette of birds, and butterflies were clear in my eyes. i can almost hear a magical sound humming in the air.

"Come on, we do not have much time to lose," Xiao Lu broke my train of thought and started walking ahead.

"Woah..."

Still in a daze, I pushed my legs to start walking, too. It all honestly felt like a dream more than anything as I continued to look around. it's like everything is embraced in this golden hue that makes everything seem like it's constantly sparkling. Even the cobblestoned pathway was glittering. My eyes soon topped at Xiao Lu's back and a curious thought came over me.

"So. Xiao Lu..." I called out as I quickened my pace so that I was walking next to her. She gave a glance but stayed quiet. "What exactly are you? I mean, for sure you're not just some regular human. So...?"

"What do you think?" she asked back.

My brows met in thought. "Are you a witch?"

Her eyes narrowed. Okay... she's not a witch.
