Isla

[Outside Café Hermes]

I gasped as I bumped into a guy while storming out of the café. "Watch it, lady," the man barked. I rolled my eyes and let out a huff, "Aren't you Lucas Da Silva?"

"Yes?" he asked, his voice laced with attitude. If only he knew.

"Aren't you dating that Ebony girl?" I asked as he pulled the girl in his arms closer to him. He clenched his jaw. "You, lady, have no say in who I date. Yes, I am dating Ebony but that's only for business."

Oh my god. The nerve this guy had.

"I wouldn't say that if I were you," Xavier said, walking up to me and wrapping his arm around my waist. "Isla, why'd you leave your fiancé alone in the café?"

Seriously, what have I done wrong to deserve these two jerks in my life?

"Isla," Jace called, walking up to me. "Bro, I missed you," I said as I ran towards him and hugged him.

"What's this guy doing here?" Jace asked, eyeing Lucas up and down.

"He's cheating on Ebony," I stated bluntly.

"I'm not cheating on her, you little bitch. Shut up and zip your mouth before I hurt you," Lucas snapped.

Jace and Xavier stepped closer to Lucas. "Listen up here, you fool. I know Ebony, and one word from me, you'll disappear from her life," Jace threatened.

I yanked my brother's arm. "Jacey, it's okay, I'll deal with it. I want to vent out my feelings. When I spoke to Noah, he took Dad's side. Please, let's just go."

As Jace and I walked away, Lucas said something that earned him a punch from Xavier. As much as I liked to fight, there is one thing I learned: never fight words with action.

[In the car]

Jace drove, and I sat in the passenger seat, seething. "I can't believe Dad's trying to marry me off like this," I muttered.

Jace glanced at me. "I know, baby sis. But you don't have to go through with it. We can fight this."

"I appreciate you having my back, Jacey. It means a lot," I said, my voice softening.

He squeezed my hand reassuringly. "We'll figure this out together."

I leaned back in my seat, closing my eyes. Xavier's unexpected punch to Lucas replayed in my mind. Despite my hatred for him, I couldn't ignore the fact that he stood up for me. Why did he do that if he hates me? Or does he really like me and want to marry me because of it? Argh! Too many questions. I guess I'll sleep on it.
