Isla
God, my head. It hurts. Where the hell am I?
The fog in my mind slowly clears, and memories flood back. Lucas came to me, wanting to "talk." I told him there was nothing left to say, that I was married, and the whole world knew. To drive the point home, I even revealed to the public that Ebony Black is Isla Frost—showing just how serious I was. I stressed that point, hoping he'd get the message and leave me alone.
But as I got up to leave, he injected me with something. Then everything went black.
Xavy must be worried sick by now.
I shut my eyes and inhale sharply, trying to calm the panic rising in my chest as I rest my head on the cold floor. I hear the sound of a door creaking open, followed by footsteps. Someone's coming.
"You're awake?" Lucas's voice breaks the silence.
"No shit, Sherlock," I mutter, keeping my eyes closed. My head throbs, but I push through it. "Is this how you treat someone you love? Lock her up in your basement?" I taunt, trying to buy some time to figure out where I am.
He laughs, a chilling sound. "Sweetie, this isn't my basement. This is under my office. No one will think to look for you here."
Damn. So, I'm still in his building. But I'm not waiting for some prince charming to come rescue me. I need to save myself. Xavy is strong, but I can't rely on him alone. I have to fight back.
"The only reason you're locked up here is because I have to deal with that Xavier," Lucas says, his voice dripping with contempt.
I clench my fists. "Don't you dare touch him," I hiss, finally opening my eyes and glaring at him. He's standing too far away for me to reach. Smart move. He's scared. "Too afraid to come close, huh? Afraid I'll hurt you?" I tease, hoping to draw him nearer.
He steps closer but still stays just out of my reach. "As you wish, I won't touch him. Rebbie will do the honors."
"Rebbie?" I ask, narrowing my eyes.
He nods, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "Rebecca Winslow," he says coolly, then turns to leave. "Don't worry, we'll be together soon, my love. Everything will be as it should be."
This man is insane.
I need to come up with a plan. Sitting in this cell with nothing to do only fuels my determination. Slowly, I get up and start pacing, examining every inch of the room. It's a barren space, with nothing but a table with food and a CCTV monitor showing Lucas's office. I glance at the time displayed on the screen and take note of the surroundings.
I move to the door and inspect the lock. It can be picked, but I need something to do it with. I go back to the table and pick up a sandwich and juice, forcing myself to eat for the energy I'll need to fight. As I eat, I keep my eyes glued to the CCTV, watching for any sign of opportunity.
A plan begins to form in my mind. I spot Xavier on the screen, walking into Lucas's office dressed as Ebony Black. My heart skips a beat. He's here, but he's in danger. I need to act now. I need to get out of here.
I quickly open a packet of nuts and pull out the small metal strip used to seal it. It's flimsy, but it'll do. I start working on the lock, my hands steady despite the urgency coursing through me. Within minutes, the lock clicks open. I slip out of the cell quietly, taking a moment to assess the situation.
Two guards. One to my right, one to my left. Both stationed by the door.
I don't hesitate. I move swiftly, catching the guard on my right off guard and knocking him out with a well-placed hit. He crumples to the ground, unconscious. But the other guard has noticed me.
What do I do now?
