Chapter One Hundred-Four: CPR From Strangers

Rodrick smiled a bit when Greg let out a nervous chuckle.

In that moment, he wished he was going to the boardwalk too. Only to see how scared his brother would be.

"I don't get the point of a summer job anyway," Barry said to Rodrick as the two sat in his basement with Ben and Lexi. "I mean, it seems to me that Y/N just wants time away from you."

"Don't say that, dipshit," Lexi said as she threw a pillow at Barry. She rolled over on her stomach on the love-seat and looked over at Rodrick. "You know Y/N's better than that."

"I know," Rodrick mumbled. "And I know why she's doing it and it's great that she is, but I wish we could spend more of the summer together."

"She probably wishes the same," Ben said as he carefully sketched the Löded Diper logo onto Rodrick's arm.

Rodrick sighed heavily. "I can't wait to graduate," he said. "Then I can have Y/N forever. All to myself."

"What're you going to do?" Barry asked with a laugh. "Lock her in a cage so she can never leave?"

Rodrick shook his head and nervously tapped his foot.

Lexi observed him carefully, narrowing her eyes. Suddenly, she let out a gasp.

"What? What is it?" Barry asked as he looked at Lexi.

Ben capped the Sharpie and waited for his girlfriend to speak.

"Oh my god!" she exclaimed before sitting upright. Her eyes never left Rodrick. "You're going to propose! After graduation!"

"What?!" Ben and Barry said in sync. They turned their attention to Rodrick who was nervously glancing between the three of his friends.

"I didn't say that," Rodrick mumbled.

"But you totally are," said Lexi. "You're proposing after graduation."

"Are you?" Ben asked.

Rodrick heaved a sigh. "No," he said. "But I'm thinking of asking her to move in with me. After we graduate, I'm going to buy us a house or an apartment and then ask her to move in with me. I'll make sure it's close to whatever college or university she wants to go to. I don't care where we are, as long as I'm with her and she's with me."

"And then you'll propose," said Lexi.

"Eventually, yeah," Rodrick mumbled.

Lexi smiled. "That's sweet. That's really sweet."

"But is it all too soon?" Rodrick asked. "I mean, once we graduate, we would only be together for a little more than a year. I really want to live with her but I don't want to overwhelm her."

"Listen, Rodrick, Y/N is my best friend," Lexi told him. "Trust me, she's going to want the same thing."

"Won't it be overwhelming for her?" Rodrick asked.

"I think that at that point in time, she'll be ready," said Lexi. "The proposal might need to wait awhile. But the moving in together part is something she's probably ready for now. If you want, I can ask her at my party."

Rodrick nodded slowly. "Just try not to make it seem like I made you ask," he told her.

"Don't worry," Lexi said. She smiled brightly. "My party is soon!"

"We know," said Barry. "You've been talking about it for weeks."

Lexi flicked his forehead and smiled. "I'm so excited!"

"Okay, everyone, shut up so I can finish this," Ben said as he started to work on Rodrick's tattoo once again.

As everyone sat in the silence, Rodrick began to worry. What if asking Y/N to move in with him ends up being a bad idea? What if Barry was right? What if Y/N does want time away from him?

Author's note: trying to update as much as i cannnn. next chapter will be based around lexi's party and then only a few chapters left of the fanfic. lexi's party is going to have a lot going on and i'm excited to introduce the new ideas that i have. lexi's party is going to affect the rest of the plot and you'll see why soon. i hope you have an amazing day/night. i appreciate you!!!
