Night time quickly came and everyone was gathered around the dining room table. The Fisher brothers were quietly waiting for their dad to call.
"Do you guys want to talk to him alone? Brie and I can wait upstairs." Belly said.
"No, stay. Stay." Conrad said. He titled his head to the seat next to him. That of course gave mixed signals to Belly. She thought the boy was communicating with her. She thought he wanted her to sit next to him.
That of course wasn't true when her friend sat next to the boy. Belly tried not to show her annoyance, taking a seat next to Jeremiah.
How could Briella be so selfish? Conrad was clearly talking to Belly, not her! If it weren't for her friend, she would have the Fisher brothers all to herself.
Conrad's phone rings. 'Dad' appears on his screen. He quickly accepts the call and puts it on speaker. "Dad, hey."
"Hey Con." Adam speaks through the phone. "I only got about a few minutes here."
"Hey dad." Jeremiah says.
"Jere?" The girl could tell by his voice he was surprised to hear Jeremiah's voice. "You're in Cousins too?"
"Yeah, just got here last night." The boy explained.
"All right, look, I got a heads-up from the bank telling me you're trying to access your trust. That's not gonna happen."
"So you've already made up your mind?" Conrad said, already pissed off.
"Yeah. I mean, that money is for your future. I'm not gonna let you blow it on a beach house." The man said, clearly not changing his mind..
"It's not just a house, Dad." Jeremiah said
"You want me to beg dad?" Conrad added. "Cause I will. I will. I'll do whatever you want. Just let us keep the house."
"Guys, I had my lawyers look into any possible loopholes right after the funeral, but there's none. Ok? The house is legally Julia's." Adam explained, causing the Fisher brothers to look at each other.
"Wait, so you've known we're losing the house since the funeral?" Jeremiah asked.
"Jere, I'm not your evil father trying to ruin your life." Adam said, causing Jeremiah to scoff. "And believe it or not, I'm just as upset as you are about it."
"That's such bullshit. That's such bullshit. You never cared about this house, Dad. You never cared about it cause you never cared about mom." The girl has never heard the boy raise his voice like this before. For all the years she knew Conrad, he rarely gets upset, let alone raise his voice. So when you get him upset, that's when you fucked up big time. The girl grabbed the boy's hand and intertwined it with hers. She squeezed it letting her know she's here for him. She could feel him relax a bit.
"You know that's not true. Jere come on. You get it, don't you?"
Jeremiah sighed. "Dad, I don't. I don't get why we can't just use our trust to buy it, and then we can sell it later if we need the money."
"No. Julia's gonna go ahead with the open house tomorrow. I really appreciate the attempt here, but this is the end of the conversation. You just make sure that Julia gets everything that she needs. You got it?" Adam said, no longer interested in this conversation.
"Conrad was right. Talking to you is pointless." Jeremiah said, fed up with this conversation as he hung up the phone.
Well that didn't go as planned. But what did they expect? Adam Fisher never cared about anything that didn't involve him.
"Surprise!" The girl turned to see Taylor and Steven come in with pastries. "Oh Shit." Steven said, realizing the type of vibe it was. "I knew we should have told them we were coming."
"No it's not that. It's..." Conrad didn't have the will to say it. It would mean they lost.
"We're losing the house." Jeremiah said. "They put it up for sale."
"Oh no. Brie, Bells." Taylor said, pulling her friends into a hug. "They're selling the house?"
"Yeah."
"I got you food." Taylor said, putting down the apple pie she got on the way. "God knows how long it's been since you ate."
The girl slightly chuckled. "Thanks Tay."
The girl didn't know what was going to happen with the house, but she knows for sure they will NOT give up that easily.
