The friends tippy toe near the kitchen to hear the conversation with Laurel, Julia, and Adam.
The girl could tell Conrad wanted to step in everytime his dad wasn't budging. She grabbed his hand and shook her head. It was not a good idea and he knew it. Well, he did until his dad told Laurel to shut up.
"Where do you get off saying shit like that?" Conrad said to his dad.
"Con..." The man looked to see he had an audience. "It's for the best. Do you really think railroading me would change my mind?"
"Excuse me, but fuck you!" Laurel yelled.
Oh the girl loved when Laurel fought back.
"Ok, all right. let's ..." Julia tried to ease the tension.
"Suze wouldn't want us fighting like this." Adam said.
"You have no idea what she would want!" Conrad yelled. "You lost her a long time ago."
"Can't you get past your own grief and see what it means to the boys?" Laurel said.
"Look, I thought it would be better this way. Easier for everyone if we let this place go."
"Easier for you."
"Yeah. Being here is hard." Adam's voice cracked. The girl has never seen this before. Adam Fisher was feeling emotion. "It's hard. She's everywhere here."
"She loved you. I tried to talk some sense into her. It's no secret I've never been your biggest fan. But she wouldn't listen, because when Beck set her mind on something, that's it. She set her mind on you Adam." Laurel explained. "And on making this house a special place for our kids. Do this one last thing for her."
"Laurel.." Adam tried pushing back his tears. He couldn't cry in front of everyone no matter how good Laurel's speech was.
"Dad..." Jeremiah said. "Please?"
And that's what broke him.
"Look, I'm not gonna let them use their trusts. But if I sell the Boston house, that could give us enough. You'd mostly be at school anyways but we can't afford both houses. Is this really what you want?"
"Yeah." Both Fisher brothers said.
"Ok..."
The girl couldn't believe it. This was finally happening as she pulled Laurel into a hug. "You are awesome!"
"Don't give me too much credit." Laurel chuckled.
"I love badass Laurel. Remind me to never get you angry."
Laurel rolled her eyes. "Yeah. Yeah."
And just like that the girl couldn't help but smile. For once, everything was going right. They got the house back, everyone was on good terms. Now there was only one thing Briella needed to do. But boy was she in one hell of a ride with her best friend.
