Caleb
Closing the apartment door behind me, I dropped my suitcase on the floor and leaned against the door, taking a deep breath.
I was back in New York.
Home sweet home.
A couple of weeks in Jenson's arms and I was feeling ... better. Energised. Ready for the next semester of college.
A faint smile tugged at my lips as I reached into the pocket of my jeans for my phone. I promised Jenson I would send him a text once I was back in the apartment, even though he wouldn't receive it till he landed in California.
Opening up the photos on my phone, I scrolled through them, smiling at the pictures I had taken of Jenson, of his family, of both of us.
Fuck.
I'd had a great time with Jenson and his family over the Christmas break. Presents, food, laughter. Honestly, his family was amazing. Their house was always warm, their door always open. I had never felt anything but welcome in his family home. I loved his mom and how much she fussed. I loved his dad for how much he cared for his whole family. Hell, I even thought fondly of his twin brothers, even though they were the biggest pains in Jenson's ass.
Pushing away from the front door, I walked slowly towards the kitchen while I sent Jenson a text message, smirking as I added a few extra dirty details.
He'd love them.
Dropping my phone on the kitchen counter, I opened the fridge ... then groaned.
Fuck.
I needed to get some groceries. Having not been at the apartment for a week or so after I'd taken Jenson home and spent some time with him and his family, I'd completely forgotten about food when I got back here.
I spied a couple of beers and grabbed one.
Eh. This will do for now.
Bumping the fridge closed with my hip, I opened the drawer to fumble around for the bottle opener, while images of what I'd done with Jenson in this very room flitted across my mind.
Shit.
Feeling a twitch in my boxers while a shiver ran along my spine, I smiled once more as I raised the bottle to my lips.
Jenson was ...
Well, he was ...
He was mine.
All mine.
Sighing, I took my beer back out into the hallway to grab my suitcase.
Just as I lifted it off the floor, the key in the door lock had my head snapping up, my eyes locked on the guy as he opened the front door of the apartment.
"Thomas."
My heart thumped against my ribs as he stopped dead in his tracks, his wide dark eyes staring at me, a pile of clothes in his arms.
"Caleb."
He swallowed, then looked off to the side while I felt the skin on my scalp prickle. I froze, staring at him as Thomas avoided my gaze.
He looked ... like shit. Dark circles framed his eyes, his usual healthy glow was replaced with pale skin and it looked as though he'd lost weight.
How was that possible? When was the last time I'd seen him? It had to have been well before Christmas.
I just ... stared at him. He didn't look well at all.
"What's happened to you?" I asked, my throat feeling tight as I dropped the suitcase back on the floor.
