A/N: I'm sorry this took so long! Life is busy for me right now!
---
Peaking through the windows, the sun forced its way through the building as it lowered for the afternoon. Classes had finished over an hour ago and the halls were empty as y/n wandered through them, her head hurting as she endured the warmth of the day after extra classes. Being the only one to have to attend them thanks to her complicated quirk, she was offered no choice but to learn how to master it. She wanted to be able to control her ability, it was the only thing that convinced her to actually show up. Stepping outside, the girl shielded her e/c eyes with a s/t hand, searching the near area for her mother. Unwilling to talk to her, part of the young teen hoped she would never appear.
By the gates, she remained for a good ten minutes at least. A scoff left her throat as her hand moved to fold with the other, no longer caring about the ability to see. It was normal for her mother to be late or something not even show up at all, and every time, y/n couldn't help but hope it meant that she had abandoned her the way she did with y/n's brother. For safety because of her mother's hero work, she had given up y/n's brother and, without explaining why, never allowed them to see each other again...Y/N missed him and she couldn't help but wonder if he was doing well...She hoped he was.
"Y/N! My wonderful daughter!" Smiling as the older woman walked toward her, y/n's frown grew as she looked off. The bright smile of her mother always irritated her, and y/n wondered if she even had any guilt. "How was your first day?"
"Why do you care..." Muttered the younger Shimura, unhappy with the situation she was in as the two began the walk home.
"Y/N, please. You know I care, I want you to be able to be free from your quirk's control and live happily." Her warm tones would have fooled basically everyone, her smile remaining although her eyes held a small sadness.
"No you want me to be a hero so that you don't look bad for breaking our family apart." Snapped the fourteen year old, reluctantly taking the same steps as Nana.
"Y/N, I know being away from your brother bothers you and I can't explain why, I'm sorry. It's not fair." The hero let the conversation go deeper, and it was a discussion they have had multiple times before. It never ended well.
"Why can't you? It isn't like there's some higher power preventing you from just seeing him at least! You won't even let me see him..." The teen spoke, her voice fading with sadness at the end.
"I wish I could tell you y/n, but right now isn't the time. Please just, focus on your quirk, it's such a special ability and you could put it to so much good use!" It had been a long time since her daughter had actually ever looked her in the eye, always guarding how she really felt. Only somehow, this time, y/n chose to look dead at her mother, her eyes burning with an emotion that made the hero's smile falter.
"Kotaro had a special quirk too." Not allowing herself to stutter, e/c eyes pierced into her mother's ones, certain about her anger. Only for a moment however, as she saw the falter in her mother's happy disposition within her eyes. Y/N's frown only increased, having complete disregard for how the older Shimura felt after what she had done.
"Y/N, please...He was safer away from us, there's too much danger in being a hero." It was hard to hide the sound of grieving in her voice, but being a single parent was so hard. Especially in the situation that Nana was in...
"Away from us or away from you?" Hissed y/n, her temper boiling over as she felt herself get tired of her mother's repetitive excuses. How dare she rope y/n into this?
"Y/N, wait! Where are you going?" Without a response, the young teen walked off in the opposite direction away from her home. Anger swelled within her as she stormed off, not watching where she was going as she grumbled to herself. Knowing better than to follow her emotionally challenged daughter, the hero sighed as she remained where she stood, only wishing things could have been different. The moment was short however as she became aware of the time, having to get ready for someone in an hour, it was important she took care of him and taught him all that she knew. Y/N would need to be dealt with later...
Rippling water created a relaxing aura, the darkening sky causing the sun to reflect and glow against the fluid as it made its way down the riverbank. It was this rare moment that allowed the floating hero to relax her smile, the depressed frown overtaking it as she thought of the ways her life should have gone. A shaky sound of a sigh left her throat as her eyes watered, remembering her husband with the wound of his death still fresh in her heart years later.
"I need you..." She admitted to herself, hoping somehow that her beloved deceased husband would be able to respond. Welling eyes clamped shut as the disappointment corrupted her thoughts, of course there was no response, what else did she expect?
"Uh...Master Shimura?" The quivering deep voice, alternating between booming and squeaky, ripped the hero from her mourning, allowing her to frantically clean herself up and force back the wide smile she always adorned. To her right, a boy, around her son's age stared up at her, his blonde hair covering his eyes slightly.
"Ah, Toshinori! How was your first day of class?" The bright smile of her student could tell her already that this conversation was going to be better than the one she had with her daughter, which gave her heart some relief.
"It was amazing! It was like everything I've ever imagined and... more!" His enthusiasm, wide smile and happy attitude made the fake smile fall into a genuine one, the hero closing her eyes as she relaxed her mind hearing positivity for once.
"I'm glad. But please don't begin to slack off now that you've officially made it, we still have a long way to go." Her tone was level, making sure that her student remembered his ultimate goal.
"Of course! I won't forget! But...Master, why didn't you tell me about your daughter?" Questioned the boy, his bright blue eyes brimming with curiosity.
"Ah, so you met y/n. What did you think of her?" Silently, the woman begged that her child had made a good impression for her first day of school.
"She was... Interesting. It seemed like she really wanted to be alone, but also didn't want to be alone at the same time. But she definitely didn't want to be in the academy." There were a lot of mixed signals coming from the daughter of the Shimura hero, it was hard for him to place anything about her personality. The only thing that happened to be clear was that she seemed to hate the idea of being in the hero academy.
"That's...A relief." Huffed the woman, glad that her daughter didn't make a catastrophic first impression.
"Is it too personal to ask why she's so... unhappy?" The boy wondered if he could have been overstepping, but he couldn't help but notice how depressed the girl in his class seemed to be.
"She just has a hard time dealing with her quirk, among other things." It was all the lady felt comfortable explaining, so it would have to do for now. Instead, she chose to redirect the situation, hoping not to linger on the topic any longer.
"Listen up, I need you to watch over my daughter. Her anger can get her into a lot of scraps and...please just keep an eye on her?" The request was small, almost uncomfortable to ask. However it didn't take more words for the hero's student to understand, the words spoken already explaining everything.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure that nothing happens to her." The boy agreed to the terms, planning on getting to know the daughter of his master anyway. She made him curious and he couldn't help but want to know more...
"Thank you Toshinori..." The woman spoke, her tone thankful before she let out a confident breath, her enthusiasm matching the boy's. "Now, let's get to practice!"
