12. Ugh! Speed Stingers

Start from the beginning

I didn't see Hiccup and Toothless around me, but I had faith that the Night Fury saved my brother. Sapphire nudged me and let out an annoyed growl. I stumbled and turned around, "Yeah, yeah, I know. Thanks, Saph."

The Death Song flipped me onto her saddle and flew to another flat rock. Hiccup and Toothless were standing on it. "Are you to okay?" I asked as I slipped off Sapphire.

"Yeah, I can't say the same about my flight suit, though." Hiccup looked at the broken wing sadly. I took my own flight suit off. One of the wooden rods that held the wings together was split down the middle. "Same here." I sighed.

I heard a flapping of wings and turned around to see the rest of the Dragon Riders landing next to us. Astrid jumped off of her saddle. "Okay, that's it. You're done with this." She put her hands on her hips angrily.

"Right." Hiccup looked down. "For now." He muttered to where only I could hear him. I grinned at his words before we all heard the pained screech of a dragon.

"What was that?" My girlfriend looked around.

"Sounded like a dragon in distress." Fishlegs stated the obvious.

"Oh, who would have guessed?" I replied sarcastically.

Hookfang walked closer to the rest of us. Snotlout, on his dragon's saddle, said, "Something about that call seems strangely familiar." He put his hand on his chin before adding, "Not good familiar. Bad familiar."

He made a confused noise when he realized the rest of us had already flew off to investigate. "Guys?" I heard him say.

"Snotlout, come on!" Hiccup called back.

"You've got to be kidding me." The Jorgenson boy said as Hookfang followed the rest of the dragons.

"We're not." I mockingly smiled back at him. He only rolled his eyes in response.

"The calls are coming from up ahead." Hiccup said, causing me to turn my attention back to whatever dragon was hurt on our island.

We continued to fly, Toothless taking the lead. There was another roar before the Night Fury slowed down. "A Speed Stinger." Hiccup announced. I groaned loudly. I hate those things.

"Why did it have to be a Speed Stinger." Snotlout complained, and for once I agreed with him.

"Looks like a young one." My brother ignored Snotlout. "Why would it be out during the day? They're nocturnal."

Snotlout put on a fake look of sympathy, "Poor little guy." Then he put on a cheerful look, "Let's head home! It's starting to get dark, and where there's one, there's usually a whole pack!"

"Sounds good to me." I spoke. Snotlout and I did not have a good history with those little things, being the only to Dragon Riders that had gotten paralyzed during the little incident a few years back.

The Speed Stinger tried to stand up, but ultimately fell back down. "Hiccup, its leg is badly injured and Speed Stingers can't fly." Fishlegs called out.

I felt a small pang of sympathy for it. Just because I didn't like Speed Stinger didn't mean I had to take it out on every one of them. Maybe this one was nice? For some unknown reason, I doubt that.

"That's exactly why we can't leave to predators." My brother responded. He's always the hero, isn't he? "Come on, Toothless." He flipped around and darted back.

"Is he seriously going back?" Snotlout exclaimed.

"Snotlout, meet Hiccup. Of course he's going back!" Astrid rolled her eyes at the Jorgenson boy.
