“So, about last night…” Jay starts tentatively.

Jungwon grimaces. The two of them just walked into the bakery—it’s 6 AM, about five hours too early for any sort of important conversation. Not to mention that Jay came to work today with his hair slicked to the side and goddamn. Who knew a little bit of hair gel would render Jungwon so utterly unable to function?

Jay doesn’t get the hint, apparently, and barrels on. “If I, like, did anything to make you uncomfortable or crossed any boundaries or anything like that, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to—”

“What are you talking about?” Jungwon cuts him off with a frown. “It was fine, seriously.”

Jay lets out an audible sigh of relief. “Thank god. I’m just not super used to first date etiquette and stuff, since—”

“Hold the fuck up,” Jungwon cuts him off again. “What did you just say?”

Jay looks positively bewildered. “I said I’m not good at first date etiquette—”

“Oh my god,” Jungwon whispers. “So that was a date.”

Jay’s eyes widen almost comically. “You—you didn’t think that was a date? What the fuck? I literally asked you—”

“You never said it was a date!” Jungwon retorts. “How the fuck was I supposed to know? You were just like, ‘Are you free at seven?’! What was I supposed to think? I thought you were gonna make me the designated driver for some frat party!”

Jay frowns. “You don’t even have your license.”

Jungwon pauses. “You know that?”

Jay nods, looking progressively more and more confused. “Um, yeah? You mentioned it once.”

Jungwon throws his hands in the air. “Why the fuck do you remember that?”

Jay lets out a laugh that sounds more confused than anything. “‘Cause I remember things about the people I like.” Jungwon can practically hear the implied duh at the end of his sentence.

Jungwon’s heart practically stops in his chest. “Hold on. You like me?” he whispers, as if saying the words any louder would make it untrue.

Jay gives him a bewildered look. “Uh, yeah? That’s why I asked you out on a date…”

Oh. Right. In the midst of all this confusion, Jungwon overlooked the fact that last night was, in fact, a date. “Well, fuck.”

Jay squints at him. “Is that a good ‘fuck’ or a bad ‘fuck?’”

An incredulous laugh escapes Jungwon’s lips. He’s having a hard time believing this isn’t some crazy dream. “Good. Definitely good,” he says in a strangled voice.
