Season 1, Episode 9: Wolf's Bane
Two nights have passed. Last night, Derek had stopped Scott from killing Jackson on the full moon. And now tonight, Derek was going out to stop the Alpha.
I should have been there with him, ready to take down the thing that had torn our family apart. But instead, Derek made it very clear that I wasn't allowed anywhere near the Alpha. Said it was too dangerous. So here I was, stuck on "getaway duty" with Scott and Stiles, circling Beacon Hills like some bored chauffeur.
To make it worse, Derek wouldn't even let me drive his car. No, he'd rather trust Scott McCall—who got him in trouble with the cops twice—than his own sister, who he had taught to drive! Unbelievable. I mean, come on—I wasn't that bad of a driver.
I sat in the passenger seat, sulking, as Scott nervously gripped the steering wheel. Stiles was sprawled out in the back, drumming his fingers against the seat like he didn't have a care in the world. The plan was simple: drive Derek's car around to distract the hunters and the cops so Derek could get some time alone with the Alpha.
The plan was working, alright. Maybe a little too well. A car had been tailing us for about ten minutes now, the headlights glaring in the rearview mirror. And it wasn't just anyone—Kate Argent was behind the wheel. I recognized her immediately, Allison's psychotic aunt who thought a taser was an acceptable way to greet a Hale.
I shot Scott a look as the headlights got closer. "Scott, you do know where the gas pedal is, right? I know you've only been driving for, what, a year? But I'm pretty sure it's the long one on the right."
Scott's eyes flicked nervously to the speedometer. "Faster? You want me to go faster?" His voice cracked, and I could see he was already well above the speed limit.
"Yes, much faster!" Stiles chimed in from the back, practically hanging over my shoulder to peer at the road ahead.
I sighed, rubbing my temples. "Look, if you don't want Kate to turn us into roadkill, I suggest you stop driving like a grandma."
Scott pressed his foot harder on the gas, and the engine roared in response. The car surged forward, and for a second, I could almost feel a little thrill in my chest. But then I glanced in the side mirror—Kate was still right behind us, her grin probably as wide as the road.
"Yeah, that's great, Scott," I muttered, my heart pounding faster now, "but unless you've got a trick up your sleeve, she's not giving up anytime soon."
Stiles leaned between the seats, his voice panicked. "Maybe we should've come up with a plan for this part! You know, the 'crazy hunter chasing us in a car' part?"
"Stiles, shut up!" Scott and I snapped at the same time.
The car lurched as Scott swerved around a corner, tires screeching, but Kate stayed glued to our bumper. I clenched my fists, fighting the urge to yank Scott out of the driver's seat and take over myself.
"Okay, Scott, new plan," I said, trying to stay calm. "Don't wreck Derek's car."
Scott's knuckles were white on the steering wheel. "That's your plan? Don't crash?"
"Yes, because if you do, you'll have to deal with Derek. Trust me, you'd rather face the Alpha."
Stiles turned his head to look out the back windshield, his anxiety spiking when he saw how much space was between us and the car behind us. "Scott, I don't think you're grasping the concept of a car chase, here..." he warned urgently.
"If I go fast, I'll kill us!" Scott warned, seeing the speedometer was already above sixty, and that was way too fast for windy roads like these.
Honestly, I'm shocked we haven't flipped yet.
