THE SUN POURED THROUGH RI-AN'S bedroom window, casting a warm glow across the room as he sat on the edge of his bed, lost in thought. His phone was in his hand, and he couldn't take his eyes off his wallpaper—a photo of him and Jae-i, one of the last happy moments they'd shared. The memory only sharpened his frustration over the breakup and that unexpected kiss between her and Kang Ha. His grip tightened around his phone until a soft "ding" broke his thoughts.

A message appeared on his screen from Ae-ra, or as she insisted on calling herself in his contacts, "The Chun Princess." It was a demand that he buy her a shortcake at school, punctuated by an angry emoji. He blinked at the message, a smile tugging at his lips despite everything. Ae-ra had a way of making him feel better with even the simplest messages, and it puzzled him as much as it reassured him.

After getting ready for school, he headed downstairs, surprised to see his mother, An Hye-won, handing out gifts to their household staff, who received them gratefully. He hadn't expected her to be home so soon.

"I didn't think I'd see you until next month," Ri-an said, masking his surprise.

"Ri-an, my dear," she replied warmly. "You're looking well." Her eyes swept over him, and she added, "My business in Singapore wrapped up early, so I thought I'd visit. How's school? Already a third-year!" She beamed as if he were a prized statue on display.

Ri-an returned her smile, though with less enthusiasm. "I'm only a second-year. I still have a year to go."

Hye-won paused, her smile faltering briefly before she regained composure. "Ah, wonderful! Any thoughts on which university you'd like to attend? England would be an excellent choice." She raised an eyebrow at him, her gaze lingering knowingly. "I believe there's a new student at your school from England as well. Chun Ae-ra, is it?"

"Yes, we've... met," he replied, stifling a grin as he recalled the desserts he now owed her.

Hye-won gave him an unreadable look. "Her family is well-regarded, and her father is a respectable man. The Chuns are... exceptional people." Checking her watch, she turned briskly to her assistant. "All right, time to review my schedule."
