Twice in a lifetime

I threw a stash of cash on his desk.

Only then, he seemed to notice that I was in the room with him.

"I don't need you to pay my daughter's hospital bill. I can take care of that just fine."

He raised his eyes from the file in his hand. That damn smirk back on his face. His eyes holding a glint of exasperation.

"Selena Lockwood. I was looking forward to meeting you. What a pleasure to present yourself in my office." He said with a shit ton of sarcasm in his voice, placing that goddamn file back on the desk.

"Well, I was not until you decided to pop your head into my business." I said, not backing away.

He stood up from his seat and walked towards me. His arms crossed.

"Correct me if I'm wrong. But last I checked, she is MY daughter, and mind you, I wasn't aware about her until yesterday. Plus she was in the hospital and as her dad I need to make sure she is been taken care of.." He negotiated like he was dealing with some business partners.

But my daughter isn't a deal.

"Listen Lucian. I have been taking care of my daughter for the past 4 years. You weren't there, no one was there for me. I did it on my own. So you do not tell me or meddle in my business. My daughter has always got what she wanted. And don't tell me you weren't 'aware' about Lyra. You threw away the chance of being a dad on your own. Being a father is not about throwing your money. It takes a lot to be a parent. The pain, love, affection and patience is something you would NEVER understand."
I spat and his jaw clenched in anger.

I turned around to leave as I couldn't bear being around him for another minute.

But in the next minute I found myself pressed between him and the wall.

"Love is pain, Selena. You fall in love, you lose your mind. That's what it does. You betrayed my trust, my love and you are preaching on the same. Why did we divorce again? Because you betrayed me." He hissed at me. His grip on my wrist was so tight that I'm sure, will leave a mark.

"Betrayed you? I fought with my family for you. I left my homeland for you. I left everyone and everything I knew for you. I trusted you so much that we got married and I gave all that I had to start your company. Do you seriously think I would betray you? You never trusted me enough to love me Lucian!!" I replied, by this time my eyes already pooled with tears.

How dare he tell me about love when he never even did in the first place. He was always confused and blamed it on the age.

"Here comes the waterworks. This is how you always manage to get what you want—" I broke myself out of his hold and slapped him. The prints of my palm clearly visible on his face.

All my pent up anger and frustration ends with it.

"Never again Lucian!! You were my worst mistake but atleast you gave me a baby girl. You and your manipulative mother destroyed my life. 4 years ago, I was just someone who collected her broken pieces of heart. It took me a lot to put it together and be what I am today. You don't fucking pretend that you have me all figured out. Because you DON'T. Never again interfere in mine or Lyra's life again. Go back on how you used to be." I pushed him out of my way.

"There was always a small part of me who wished that the man I loved was yhere somewhere but I was wrong, like every time. Don't worry, you won't hear from us again." I said before he could speak and left his office.

By the time I reached my cabin, I was a mess. Both of us shouldn't share the same space. We were never meant to be.

I took a deep breath and made an inevitable decision.
