SELENA LOCKWOOD

"Hey, Mama! I hope you prepared lunch for 3."

Considering how my morning went, it wasn't much of a surprise. I knew my day was destined to be worse than any other.

Yesterday I had a heck of an evening, especially dealing with my ex-husband and his accusations. I thought I could sleep in this morning, but who was I kidding? Sleep was nowhere in sight. After a series of twists and turns, I gave up and got out of bed, straight away to read through the lawsuit.

For a fourth time.

At this point, I know every word in every line.

The Plaintiff, Lucian Ashford, by and through legal counsel, hereby alleges as follows:

The Defendant, Selena Lockwood, is alleged to have violated the terms of a confidentiality agreement by disclosing and/or profiting from proprietary information belonging solely to the Plaintiff. Said information pertains to intellectual property developed under private and contractual terms.

The Plaintiff seeks compensatory damages, injunctive relief, and any further remedy deemed just and appropriate by the Court.

And a million other documents and what nots attached.

So, apart from my coding duties and mommy duties, I have another one hanging up my ass—investigating.

The question remains: who did I apparently sell this project to? And who breached through the safe. It definitely has to be someone who wanted me out for good.

Now, I have a few respectable candidates for this position.

But as the court says, "innocent until proven guilty"—though I am definitely dragging their ass, including the so-called plaintiff.

In my defense, he was asking for it.

Back to the person at the door, who had a backpack full of what looked like soft toys, a goofy grin, and a basketball hat worn backwards. I couldn't help but raise my brows.

"Excuse me?"

"You are excused, baby! By the way, you look sexier than ever." He pushed past me, not before placing a small kiss on my forehead.

I hurried past him to move my laptop and other documents from his sight.

"Lucian! you can't barge in my house as you please. I will tell you this one time, GET OUT."

"But my baby girl is here." He smiled while carefully placed the backpack on the couch. "Wait.. Is that pancake?!" He moved towards the terrace, more like, aiming for MY BREAKFAST.

"Oh no! You don't!"

I pushed Lucian toward the couch before he could get his hands on my food. But it seems like he got hold of not one, but two things on his departure to the couch.

Yes.

My fluffy pancake.

And me.

Worst morning indeed.

Lucian landed on the couch with me on top of him, one hand holding me firmly against his chest while the other held the pancake—my pancake—that he fed himself.

"Perfect, just like a dream."

"That was my breakfast, you asshole!" I scoffed, pushing myself up from him, my floral dress riding up in the process. I was basically straddling him at this point.
