"Who the fuck do you think you are to order me?" I said with anger raging.
"As long as it is for you, i don't even think twice to become a monster." he smirks, sending...

I dropped my lab coat, stethoscope, and work files onto the table, barely glancing at the mess as I shuffled toward my bedroom. My body felt like it had been through a marathon, each muscle weighed down by the exhaustion of another grueling day.
Without a second thought, I dived into my bed, grateful for the momentary peace as the world outside seemed to quiet down. Just as I was slipping into that magical state where the body begins to relax and the soul surrenders to sleep, a phone's ringtone broke the stillness.
With every ounce of strength I could muster, I reached for my phone, praying that it wasn't work-related. I glanced at the screen, my irritation growing as I recognized the caller. Of all people, it had to be her—the most ridiculous person to ever call at 2 a.m.
"I'm getting married."
The words stumbled out of her mouth, and I blinked, disoriented, as my mind struggled to process the absurdity of it all. "What?!"
"Brooo, you're really choosing the wrong time for a prank," I muttered, annoyed, trying to suppress the anger rising in me. "It's 2 in the morning here, you know."
A voice crackled through the phone. "Not a prank, Ammu. My wedding is fixed. Just got the time to call you. I know it's surprising, but yeah... I'm getting married in ten days."
I sat up, my brain failing to comprehend her words. "Wait, what? You're kidding me, right? You, getting married? That wasn't even on your 'to-do later list'! How in the world did this happen?"
"Details later, Ammu. We'll talk when you're here. But I need you. Find the earliest ticket to India and make sure you stay for a while. I know it's short notice, but I want you in all my wedding events."
The weight of her words hit me like a ton of bricks. Aarohi was getting married. And she wanted me there—at her wedding. I couldn't believe it.
"I know it's been five years since you've been back," she continued, her voice softening. "But you can't miss my wedding. I'm getting married only once."
A thousand thoughts swirled in my head as I absorbed her words, the memories of our carefree days together flooding my mind. "Yeah, I'll be there. Don't even think i will be bailing on your wedding. We'll make it epic. It's the first one among us!" I tried to muster some excitement, even though my heart was still trying to catch up.
Aarohi chuckled, her voice filled with warmth. "Love you, Ammu. Can't wait to see you. Now, go get some sleep."
She disconnected the call, but the weight of her words lingered, and I found myself staring blankly at the ceiling, wide awake.
Five years. Five years since I had left India, moved to the US, finished medical school, and started my career as a doctor. But beyond that, five years since I had seen my best friends.
