You were starting to lose hope. All of these dating apps and failed talking stages had you at your wits end.
"Do you want to try a blind date?" Your friend asked. You rolled your eyes at the thought.
"Never again, I might be losing hope here, but I'm not THAT desperate."
"Bad time, I'm assuming?" They asked with a scrunched up expression, which made you scoff.
"Calling it a bad time is an understatement."
"Maybe the person you want is living abroad."
"I'm NOT about to look like one of those passport people." You said, immediately shutting down that idea.
"I'm not saying you need to do all of that. I'm also not saying that you need to turn this into a '90 Day Fiancé' situation either." They replied.
"So what should I do?" You said, flopping down onto your couch with a groan.
"I don't know, it's not like you can just build yourself a partner." Your friend said as they sat down on your love seat. You slowly raised up your head, turning to them with a wicked grin.
"_____, you're not ACTUALLY taking this literal, are you?" They asked in disbelief, practically seeing the lightbulb above your head.
"You know that I'm crazy enough to do that." You said, immediately getting up and running downstairs to your basement. Your friend was right on your tail as they followed behind you.
"I know I call your basement your lab, but this is a new level of mad scientist, even for you." Your friend said, taking in all of the new additions since the last time they were down there.
"You don't like my gadgets and gizmos?" You asked, showing off the space.
"It's certainly something." They muttered, following right behind you once again. They look up in horror at the newest and largest machine that you stand in front of.
"C-Care to explain what THAT is?" They stuttered, looking up and down at it in bewilderment.
"This, my dear friend, is how I'm going to get my new significant other." You said proudly, patting the side of the machine.
"You got an alien in there or something?" They asked, still looking in bewilderment.
"I'm flattered that you think I'm at that level of science." You said, putting a hand over your heart.
"You might as well be. Is this a teleportation device then?"
"Nope! With this machine, I'll be able to craft my dream person."
"Craft? Like what Frankenstein did with his monster?" They asked with a raised eyebrow, voice uneasy.
"I'm building a boyfriend, not a monster." You said, starting up the machine to get to work.
"But what if he ends up like one?" You looked over your shoulder to see your friend wearing a worried expression on their face.
"I know what I like, and I DONT like monsters. He's going to have all the qualities I like, both physical and personality. He's gonna be big and strong so he can carry me whenever my feet hurt from walking or to move heavy things. He's going to look intimidating but is really a huge softie."
"Anything else?"
"Hmm, maybe brown eyes? I like the way the sun hits them, you know?"
"Just those three things you're doing? No other personality traits? Is he gonna be a gym fanatic? Are you gonna make him musically inclined or what?" Your friend asked, throwing rapid fire questions at you to further the creation.
