I lay in bed thinking about the events of tonight. Mostly the kiss.
When Lee dropped me off at the road, he had said he would pick me up tomorrow morning and take me to town to grab my truck. Then we exchanged numbers and he tried to get out of the truck but I had stopped him. I explained if my father was up, it was best if he didn't know who was dropping me off.
He didn't seem to like the idea of not walking me to the door but I didn't give him much of a choice. I smiled and thanked him, then said I would see him in the morning before I got out of the truck and walked up to the house. Rex was in his normal spot by the door. I quietly unlocked it and went in the house. I closed the door and let out a sigh of relief when I couldn't see my parents anywhere. I leaned against the door, unable to stop the smirk that rose on my face as I heard Lee start to drive away.
I must have fallen asleep at some point as next thing I knew, my alarm was going off and Rex was groaning at me for disturbing his sleep. I roll over to turn it off, then get out of bed and throw on some plaid pyjama bottoms.
I walk downstairs and follow the smell of coffee to the kitchen. When I turn the corner I can see my mom standing at the sink washing dishes, my father no where in sight. I let out the breath I was holding and head to the coffee maker to pour a cup.
"Morning" I say as I pass my mother
"Morning, hunny" she replies with a smile "How was your night?"
"It was good" I reply as I take a whiff of my coffee and lean against the counter
She turns to grab a pan from the stove when she stops and stares at me. I follow her gaze as she walks over to me quickly. Fuck, my hand- I think to myself
She places her hand on mine and looks up at me with concern
"Mom, it's fine. After my gig there was a bar fight but Zach and I got out without much hassle" I say
She doesn't say anything in return, just looks back down at the bandage on my hand
"Mom, honestly its nothing" I say as I take my hand away from her grasp
"Don't let your dad see that" She says as she points to my bandage
"Didn't plan on it" I reply with a small chuckle
"Where's your truck?" she asks as she looks out the window
I come up with the quickest excuse I could, I don't think telling her the whole truth would be a good idea. She doesn't need to be telling half truths to my father.
"Zach dropped me off, had to get out of that bar in a hurry" I reply as I walk out of the kitchen and head to the front porch. I grab my blanket and set it on my lap as I hear the screen door open once again. Rex walks out with his ears slightly drooping to the side of his head as he wags his tail and heads my direction.
"look who decided to get out of bed" I say with a chuckle as he lays his head on my lap.
I can see no signs of my father this morning, relief fills my body. If he knew anything about last night he would have been itching to lecture me.
Once I finish my coffee, I get into my barn clothes and head outside to do my morning chores. I feed the horses their grain, water both the horses and cows, and then head to the coup to collect the eggs for the day. Once collected, I pack them up in the house with some cookies my mother baked the day prior. I visit Ellis a few times a week and I have not seen him since his horses were taken 3 days ago. Figuring once I get my truck, I can swing my his place for a visit.
I head upstairs and have my shower, then get dressed in jeans and a tank top with an unbuttoned plaid shirt on top. Nothing special, typically my go to in the summer.
