Naruto the Last | Sasunaru Version

To make up for the short chapter from last time, here's a long chapter for you guys (with lots of music to go with each scene)! Please excuse any grammar or flow mistakes, and happy reading!

Naruto found himself in his old academy classroom, his academy self sitting in his chair, hands resting over his head nonchalantly like usual. Everyone's childhood selves were there too, including Sakura, who sat beside him, and Sasuke beside Sakura.

"If the world were going to end tomorrow, who would you like to spend your last day with?" Asked the academy's teacher, Iruka Sensei.

"Nah, give me a break, like that's really gonna happen!" Naruto retorted, smiling, his arms resting above his head, hands resting under his blonde hair, grabbing the back of his neck.

"It's a hypothetical." Iruka Sensei responded, looking annoyed but still trying to keep his cool. "Just suppose the moon began to fall."

"If it's the end of the whole world, I'd rather have a big piece of meat fall on us than the moon!" Choji exclaimed, excitedly putting his hands on his cheeks.

"Good one, Choji!" Shikamaru said as the class erupted in laughter.

Suddenly, the room went dark. Confused murmurs of "Huh?" spread around the class as everyone turned to look outside. The moon was rapidly falling from the sky, eclipsing the sun!

Everyone screamed as the moon fell faster and faster, Naruto bracing himself and closing his eyes before it hit the academy.

He coughed as dust filled the air. Suddenly, all the dust disappeared, and he felt a cold chill around him and pain filling his body, needles piercing his skin. He groaned as he used his arms covered by his orange genin-jacket sleeves to pull himself up from his lying down position, turning his head to look up.

He saw Sasuke standing tall before Haku, lying on the ground.

"You always... Get in the way, Naruto. It never fails." Sasuke said through short, sharp, exhausted breaths. Dozens of needles pierced his body, including his long-collared navy blue shirt with the Uchiha crest in the middle, plaid white shorts, and white arm warmer.

"Nah, you beat him, Sasuke!" Naruto called out with a smile. Naruto's smile started fading when he saw Sasuke's face, blood trickling down his cheek, Haku's needles piercing his entire back and chest.

"You should see the look on your face," Sasuke said through a weak scoff. "You... Look like a total loser!"

Naruto quickly sat up before speaking, "Huh? Why- did you save me? Why did you do it?"

"I don't know why..." Sasuke said honestly, "I just did!" He responded, not knowing why himself.

Naruto stood up, his pupils shaking and his lip quivering.

"I hated you..." Sasuke started.

"Then why?!" Naruto demanded, balling his fist. "It doesn't make any sense; why did you... Protect me?!"

Sasuke closed his eyes with a sweet smile on his lips. "I don't know; my body just moved on its own."

Naruto let out a slight growl. "I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask you to save me!"
