Y/N's POV

The tension from our conversation earlier still lingered in the air as I sat at my desk, staring blankly at my computer screen. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't focus on work.

"Taylor doesn't do relationships."

A soft knock on my office door made me snap out of my thoughts. Before I could respond, Taylor stepped inside and closed the door behind her. My heart stuttered in my chest at the sight of her—tall, confident, but with an unreadable expression.

Taylor: "We need to talk."

I swallowed hard and nodded.

She walked closer, stopping just a few feet away from me. The space between us felt too small, charged with something dangerous.

Y/N: "About earlier?"

Her jaw tightened.

Taylor: "About everything."

I stood up, bracing myself for whatever she was about to say.

Taylor: "What happened between us last night... it can't happen again."

The words stung more than they should have.

Y/N: "Why not?"

Taylor let out a sharp breath, running a hand through her hair.

Taylor: "Because people are watching, Y/N. I can't be seen like this—with you."

My stomach dropped.

Y/N: "What do you mean 'like this'?"

She hesitated, her blue eyes darkening.

Taylor: "Close. Too close."

The way she said it—like she hated the words coming out of her own mouth—made my chest tighten.

I stepped forward, closing some of the distance between us.

Y/N: "So what, we just pretend last night didn't happen? That there's nothing between us?"

Taylor's eyes flickered to my lips before she quickly looked away.

Taylor: "That's exactly what we do."

I scoffed, shaking my head.

Y/N: "You're lying."

She didn't respond.

Didn't move.

Didn't do anything except stand there, breathing just a little too heavily.

I took another step closer, my voice softer now.

Y/N: "Tell me you don't feel anything when I'm around. That last night meant nothing to you."

Taylor exhaled sharply, as if trying to steady herself.

She didn't answer.

She didn't have to.

The way she was looking at me said everything.

For a moment, I thought she might actually give in. Her fingers twitched at her sides like she wanted to reach for me. But then, just as quickly, she stepped back.

Taylor: "This conversation is over."

I clenched my jaw, frustration bubbling up inside me.

Y/N: "You don't get to decide that, Taylor. Not when you're the one who started all of this."

Something flashed in her eyes—guilt, regret, maybe even longing. But she forced herself to look away.

Taylor: "I have to go."

She turned and walked toward the door, her movements stiff like she was physically stopping herself from staying. But before she left, she paused for just a second, her hand gripping the doorknob.

Without looking back, she spoke so quietly I almost didn't hear it.

Taylor: "I'm sorry, Y/N."

And then she was gone.

I stood there, my chest rising and falling too fast, my mind spinning.

Sorry?

Sorry for what? For wanting me? For pushing me away?

Or for something she still wasn't telling me?

I didn't know.

But I damn well intended to find out.
