Taylor's POV
I stood there, frozen, staring at the door. My heart was hammering against my ribcage, my palms slick with sweat.

Y/N didn't move. She just stood there, arms crossed, waiting.

Waiting for me to decide.

Travis: "Babe?"

His voice was softer now, uncertain.

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

And then—

I opened the door.

The second the lock clicked, I felt the shift.

The air between us grew heavy, suffocating.

But when I looked out, expecting to see Travis, he wasn't there.

The hallway was empty.

Y/N sighed, shaking her head.

Without a word, she brushed past me, her shoulder barely grazing mine as she left. No glance back, no hesitation. Just—gone.

And for the first time, I realized—

I lost.

I walked back toward the booth, my stomach twisting in knots.

I needed a drink.

I needed to think.

But when I reached our table, my blood ran cold.

Travis was gone.

Y/N was gone.

I frowned, scanning the bar, but there was no sign of them anywhere.

I grabbed my purse from the booth and rummaged through it for my phone—only to realize it wasn't there.

Shit.

I looked around, checking under the table, on the seats—nothing.

Then, as if on cue, my phone vibrated against the table.

I grabbed it instantly, hoping it was Travis, hoping I could fix whatever this was before it spiraled out of control.

But the second I unlocked my screen, my heart stopped.

A text from Travis.

Travis: I went through your phone. I saw the messages.

My stomach dropped.

Travis: I don't know what the hell is going on between you and Y/N, but I'm not stupid.

My hands were shaking as I read the next part.

Travis: I need space. I'm putting our relationship on hold. Don't call me.

My breath caught in my throat.

No. No, no, no.

This wasn't supposed to happen like this.

I typed out a message as fast as I could, my fingers slipping over the keys.

Taylor: Travis, wait. It's not what you think. Just talk to me.

No response.

I gritted my teeth, running a hand through my hair.

I needed control.

And I knew exactly where to get it.

Taylor & Y/N Texts
Taylor: Where are you?

Taylor: We need to talk.

Taylor: This isn't funny, Y/N.

Nothing.

I clenched my jaw, my heart pounding.

Then, finally—three little dots appeared.

I held my breath.

Y/N: I'm not working right now. If you need me, we can talk during office hours.

I stared at the screen, my blood boiling.

Office hours?

Office. Hours?

After everything that just happened, after everything we had been through, she was really going to pull this shit?

I gripped my phone so tightly my knuckles turned white.

And for the first time since I met Y/N—

I realized I was no longer in control.
