If there's one thing that Wenda hates, it's annoying people.
Usually she'd be left alone, but for some odd reason, Simon and Sky thought it would be a good idea to pester her today. At first Wenda thought nothing of it, but once the two started poking, pulling on her fur, and playing pranks for no reason, her irritation began to slowly rise. She told them off, but they didn't listen.
All day, they were being annoying pains, and when they weren't, they were talking her ears off. She tried to rant off to Gray, but all he says is: "Now you see how it's like to for me to deal with you all day."
'...I'm not THIS annoying!' She thought with a huff, finally finding a decent hiding spot in a dark room. News flash, she's actually worse.
As she sat there, she began thinking about what she could do if the two found her again. Would finding a new spot be worth it? They'd most likely just track her down, but at the same time, hiding's the only option she's got for right now.
With a heavy sigh, she closes her eyes and relaxes with her back against the door to prevent entry.
Wenda sat there for a while deep in thought, but once she snaps out if it, she heard a noise. No it wasn't suspicious... but it was rather the sound of some sort of paper being shuffled. At first once she heard it, she shrugged it off, but hearing that noise becoming persistent, she felt her ear twitch in annoyance.
'Okay, what the heck is that noise?' She asked herself, finally having enough. Wenda opens her eyes and looks around, only to jump in shock upon seeing a pair of eyes in the darkness.
She quickly flashed her phone light at the pair of eyes, only to barely see Black there, reading a book at a desk nearby. Wenda sighed in relief, and turned off her flashlight. "Oh good... it's only you."
"Who else would it be, Wenda?"
"I dunno, Jevin? He usually reads in the dark like this. How can you even see?"
"I have my ways." Black responded simply, and then proceeded to go back to reading silently.
Silence lingered for a bit, and for some reason, Wenda felt bored. When she knew she was alone, she was content as ever, but now realizing she has company, she begins to notice how oddly silent it is. Even when the pages of the book being flipped, Wenda couldn't help but feel... unentertained.
She then sighs deeply, and then looks over at Black. As much as he scares her sometimes, she needed something to do.
"What are you reading?" She asks him out of nowhere. Black doesn't even look up as he responds to Wenda’s question. "I'm not certain. I just pick up a book if I find it interesting. And if I like it, I read more books from the author."
"Yeeeah, cool. Can we talk about something other than books though? I'm bored."
"That much is obvious, Wenda."
"So what, you're just gonna sit around and be a bookworm? We've already got Jevin for that."
Black closes his book, shutting Wenda up almost immediately. 'Y-Yeah... shutting up...' She thought nervously to herself, turning away. Wenda knows this is never on purpose, but sometimes Black's mysterious presence scares her; she can't help but occasionally feel nervous or anxious around him.
The room stays silent for a while before Black speaks up. "How was your day, Wenda? You seem oddly bothered." He turned to her.
Wenda looks up, snapping out if her distant trance. She then clears her throat, trying to hide her nervousness. "Well... it wasn't the best. I've been getting bothered by Simon and Sky all day. For some reason, the two were just relentless with the annoying stuff..."
"I'm guessing this is your very first rodeo with them."
"...What do you mean?"
Black sets his book down with a sigh. "Well, I mean that usually the two annoy me, Durple, Gray or Jevin. They're so keen on annoying the usually serious and isolated folk; i'd never imagine that they went to you if you hadn't just told me."
"Well yeah, they annoyed me alright." Wenda huffs and folds her arms, her nervousness beginning to fade as their casual conversation continued. "It was all pranks and pokes. And pulls. And shoves..."
Black chuckles. "How surprising. Are you telling me that you lost your cool, Wenda?"
"Well, you would have too!"
"Trust me, I've endured far worse from the two. This is tame."
Her eyes widened in shock. "THAT was tame?!" Wenda questioned, and Black rolls his eyes in response.
For the next few hours or so, the two managed to hold a conversation together. Wenda slowly grows used to Black, and even begins questioning how she was scared of him in the first place. He say seem off, and his presence may feel bothering, but in the end he's just like Jevin; outcasted for being weird and different.
This makes her feel bad, as she was reminded that she was basically one of the ones who outcasted him as well...
After about 3 hours of chatting with one another, Wenda turns to Black. "Hey Black?"
"Yes?"
"...Do you ever get sad? Y'know... we never usually invite you to places with us, and we never check in on you. If anything, we avoid you, and still call you a friend. Did any of that ever make you feel bad?"
"No."
"Huh? Well, why not?" She looked over at him, shocked and puzzled. Black turns away from her with a sigh, taking off his top hat.
"Well Wenda, have you ever thought that perhaps I've just grown used to it? Being pushed away over and over again... that slowly becomes something you grow used to, especially if it's also something you've endured as a young child.""Black.. I-I'm sorry to hear that."
Wenda’s ears drooped as she looked down. This remind her of the first time she met the group; at first they all thought she was weird, and she was outcasted as well. The only difference is that she was given a chance. Black was never given one.
With her mind made up, she turned to Black. "Well then, I'll hang out with you!"
"I'm flattered you care Wenda, but that isn't necessary. You may not believe that you act like my friend, but trust me, just keeping me around us far more than enough to me."
"That's... damn, that's actually really sad. Still, no matter what you say, I'm hanging out with you more often! End of story!"
Black smiles slightly. "You truly are impossible."
Ever since that day, the two have grown fond of each other. With Wenda hanging out with him more, that's urged the others to also spend more time with him; Black was no longer alone. And for once, his malicious aura had vanished completely.
One day while next to Wenda, he gives her a headpat and smile. "Thank you for this Wenda. I feel much better... like I belong somewhere for once."
"...Anytime."
As Black pulls away, Wenda finds herself blushing, and her tail swaying happily behind her.
'Well shit... this wasn't supposed to happen...'
