"There, that should do it."I smiled gratefully at Kaz. He had patched up my leg so that it would only need a little time to heal and would be fully functional again, apart from a few scars. He had put a light bandage on it so that I wouldn't injure myself any further."I can't thank you enough."I smiled at him kindly. He had helped me a lot."Oh, it doesn't matter. But if you have any side effects like floating or spitting up green stuff, you should let me know."I widened my eyes."What?!"I looked at him in panic."I was only joking," he laughed, which made me breathe a sigh of relief."I hope so for your sake!"I saw him smirk and, as if I had no choice, I had to say it back. Then he held his hand out to me."Let's go back downstairs."I took his hand and let him pull me carefully to my feet. Or on one leg, as I couldn't put the other one down. I felt Kaz put his arm around my waist to support me."Is that okay?"I just nodded. I've rarely been this close to a person, which made me feel a little embarrassed. I could only hope I wasn't blushing.

We walked  - stumbling in my case - downstairs to the living room, where Chase was sitting on the couch staring at the TV.He looked at us as we entered the room and walked towards him.Kaz also led me to the couch and helped me to sit down. I thanked him quickly and quietly and looked at the other patient. While Kaz took a seat right next to me so that I was now sitting between the two boys, I looked at Chase. He still looked pretty shattered and worn out."So you're okay?"I nodded. Before I knew what to say, he continued."I guess I owe you my life."I looked at him, puzzled. Did he mean the action with the knife?"That was nothing... Besides, Bree and Skylar came straight here."Chase, who had been leaning backward, straightened up and looked me directly in the eyes."You don't have to be so modest. I know that's what happened. And thank you, you helped a lot."I immediately felt my cheeks get warmer and I bet I just blushed a little.Chase smiled broadly at me, which I returned.

"Don't smile so wide or he'll get his hopes up," a smirking Kaz whispered in my ear from my left, which, if I'm honest, I'd forgotten about for a few seconds."I heard that!" Chase interjected immediately."I didn't intend for you to miss it either."Confused, I looked back and forth between the two of them. What was going on now?"You know...," Kaz began, leaning further over to me, "Chase never gets a girlfriend. Even his robot girlfriends didn't want him."He started to laugh while I looked at the boy on my right, subtly disturbed."You built girlfriends?""Yeah, and that would have all worked if Kaz hadn't stolen my first one!"While Kaz continued to laugh about it, I was more puzzled. That was crazy."But why? I mean you didn't need to do that, did you?"Suddenly they were both quiet and looked at me intently. Had I said something wrong?"What do you mean?" Chase asked me after a few seconds and, stammering a little, he got his answer."Well... Well, it's not like you're ugly... And you're smart too...""Oh God, it must be the side effects of the painkillers."Suddenly I had Kaz's hand on my forehead, as if he was trying to measure my non-existent fever. I grabbed his hand and took it away from my face."No, I mean it."Even though it was a bit awkward to say, I couldn't talk my way out of it now anyway."Hmm..."Chase seemed to think for a moment before he replied with a grin: "Finally, someone with taste."Before I could say anything, Kaz beat me to it."It's getting really weird. We should stop this.""No, you know what? It's my turn too. I'm sick of everyone always thinking I'm the loser of the troupe. That's over now."Chase stood up, albeit a little shakily, and stood in front of me, then asked me the one thing I hadn't expected."Let's go on a date, you and me."
