When I walked into my room at home and closed the white door behind me, I leaned back against it and had to realize what had just happened. Chase, the famous bionic guy, had asked me if I would go on a date with him. And I said yes without thinking. However, I didn't even know if I wanted to. It just came as a surprise. On the other hand, it didn't necessarily have to be a mistake.Even if it came about because of a strange situation, I should keep an open mind. Maybe it would be a surprise.I pushed myself away from the door and went to the window, which was still open. I quickly closed it.
Now that I knew that some bad people were out to get my neighbors, and possibly me too, I should be more careful. That meant keeping the big window closed for the time being. As soon as I reached the bed, I let myself fall into the soft, cold comforter. I lay across the bed, head to the wall, staring at the ceiling.I hadn't come to terms with it all yet. And for some reason, I felt a little uncomfortable when I was with these people. I wasn't sure what it was. I could only speculate. It wasn't their characters. My neighbors were a handful of wonderful, nice people. I don't think it had anything to do with their bionics either. Maybe it was just that I was shy and quiet and never had much to say.Nevertheless, I was very sure of one thing. As strange as it may all seem to me at times, now that I was back in my room, I wished I was with them. Despite initial difficulties, I was beginning to like them.
Especially Chase. I guess he wasn't as bad as I thought. I had him pegged more as a bossy asshole, but it looks like he's just bossing around. Anyway, he wasn't an asshole. And pretty nice too, now that the whole thing has happened. But what he wanted to achieve with this date remained a mystery to me. Somehow I had the feeling that it wasn't about him or me, but about proving something to others. So I was all the more afraid of how this might turn out. This small piece of friendship that we had gained could be gone again immediately and lead to further problems. The only sensible thing to do would probably be to cancel the whole thing, but for reasons unknown to me, I didn't want to.So I had no choice but to be surprised tomorrow and see how things went from there.

"So, what's the plan?"I looked at Chase, who was standing in front of me in a red and white plaid shirt, grinning at me."First of all, far away from this house."Confused, I looked at him and immediately got an answer."They'll all be spying on you."Understandable. Maybe it's for the best. I wouldn't want the others following us around all day just to have fun. When Chase walked out of the Daventower, I followed him or rather walked along the sidewalk to his right. There was silence between us for a while. There we were again. Quiet and shy. I needed to get rid of that soon."So... I thought maybe we could go to a café and get to know each other better..." he broke the silence after a while and looked over at me briefly.I nodded and replied curtly: "Mhm, sounds good."It was uncomfortable right now. I hoped that the ice would break soon, otherwise, it was going to be a very, very long day.
So it was quiet again for a while until we reached a small café on the corner of a tower block. Chase opened the glass door and stepped aside so that I could enter. I had to smile briefly as I hadn't expected this.We took a seat at a small table by a window. I made myself comfortable on the wooden chair and took a quick look around. There weren't many people in the café. Mostly just people who, as you could tell from their work clothes, were just having a coffee for their lunch break.I noticed that he did not attempt to open a conversation, so that was probably down to me. I thought for a moment, but it wasn't long before I had something that I was interested in."Tell me..."I had his full attention."... what exactly is it about these robot girlfriends now?""Oh, that," he laughed briefly and then continued.I looked at him curiously, but he looked around a little uneasily before looking at me again."I just wanted a girlfriend too..."I saw his cheeks turn a little pink and you could tell he was a little embarrassed."That's understandable. But are androids the best choice? I'm sure some flesh-and-blood women think you're great."He shrugged his shoulders briefly. You could tell he was unsure."It hadn't worked anyway. When Kaz reprogrammed the first female android, I created another one. We let her choose, but she wanted Kaz. Just like the others that were built afterward. After a few days, I dismantled them because they were just causing problems."I smiled gently at him. It was already quite sweet."Chase, I can assure you of one thing. You don't need machines to replace your wife. You'll get one just like that. It just takes longer for some people. My mom had her first boyfriend at 22."I got a little smile from him and a nod afterward."What would you like to order?"Our conversation was interrupted by a smiling waitress who approached our table with a piece of paper and pen and looked at us questioningly."A hot chocolate," came from me and Chase at the same time. Our eyes met immediately and we both had smiles on our faces. The waitress also disappeared with a grin on her face after taking down our order."You know, I wouldn't have guessed you like that..." Chase said and I looked at him in surprise."What, as a hot chocolate drinker?"He laughed."No, that we have something in common."I grinned too."You know, sometimes life surprises us. Who knows what else we have in common?
