Weeks have passed since Valentine's Day. Draco and Y/N's relationship seemed to have drifted since then, as neither wanted to talk to each other and be reminded of the disastrous Valentine. On top of that, Harry and Ron still avoided her, and although they started to speak again, Y/N could tell their conversation was careful and considerate as if they hadn't fully trusted her yet.
Recently, she felt as though everything was gradually unravelling. Naturally, she still has plenty of friends. Yet, more than anything, she longs to maintain her friendships with the key figures. Without them, how could she ever navigate a world that wasn't hers?
But, hey, at least she still has Hermione on her side, she thought.
But that was until the news broke out that another Gryffindor had gotten petrified. Y/N didn't need to know their name to know it was Hermione who had become another victim of the Basilisk because, according to the story, right after Colin Creevey, Hermione, the second living Gryffindor, got petrified.
Y/N tried to visit the poor girl to the best of her ability, but Madam Pomfrey always refused her visit. It wasn't just her who got denied, Harry and Ron also got the same answer from the nurse, saying that she wasn't taking any chances and let the attacker in just to finish the victims off.
That's it, she had enough of everything. Y/N was so frustrated by her situation that she needed to vent her anger onto something. And what better way to do so than to confront the source of it all? Without telling anyone about her plan or where she was going, Y/N left for the girls' bathroom on the second floor.

The school's atmosphere was already grim and regretful from all the Muggles' petrification. However, somehow it still managed to prove them wrong by getting grimmer as the news of another petrification broke out throughout the school. It wasn't anything new for the students and teachers, but each case only evoked more fear among the students, causing chaos and panic to ensue.
The students looked as if they wanted to leave the place desperately, constantly looking over their shoulders and were fearful that they would be the next victim.
But one boy seemed to relish the disappearance of Muggles at their school. Draco Malfoy. Where students shivered in fear and wished the mysterious petrification of students to stop, Draco appeared to be fine with it. In fact, he preferred it if it meant he never had to see those filthy Mudbloods' faces ever again, especially the insufferable know-it-all Granger.
"Have you heard?" Nott asked amusedly, a housemate of Draco's.
"Heard of what?" Malfoy droned.
"There's another one."
"Another one?" He repeated, to which Nott nodded.
"This time's a Ravenclaw. Said to have been found in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom."
"What an embarrassing place to get petrified." Draco sniggered. "Who was it?"
"Serene Willow," Nott said slowly.
Draco almost yelled the word 'what' out loud but managed to catch himself. His eyes did, however, bulge out of his eye sockets as his smile faltered from shock. Y/N was the last person he thought would ever get petrified since he was sure that she was Slytherin's heir. Otherwise, what use would she petrify herself?
"You sure?" Draco asked, sounding uncharacteristically concerned.
"Heard it myself from the professor." Nott grinned, looking proud that he got the information through eavesdropping.
"Do you think she'll ever wake up?" Nott wondered.
"Hopefully not," Parkinson butt in, dripping with jealousy. "She and all the other Muggle-borns; they're better off that way. I've gotten tired of her face anyway, it was honestly getting under my skin."
