"Summer..." Draco groaned lazily, almost miserably out of boredom in his own family manor. His body spread out in his bed, his mind blankly staring at the roof of his four-poster bed.
He's never bored on summer holidays, not usually, not like this. He could always find something to amuse himself or fill his time with something, ANYTHING. But with Dobby gone as his family house-elf, he had simply no one to talk to or to assist him anymore.
He's parents were busy as always. Or at least that's how it felt.
His friends from school rarely write to him, not that he was expecting.
He could study, but that's boring.
He could practice flying, but he wasn't in the mood, nor did he feel like casting any spells.
Everything was extremely tedious. He felt like rotting in the comfort of his bed, but he knew that was a waste of his time as well. It was SUMMER BREAK, he should be having fun!
But he's not.
As Draco was lost in his thoughts, Draco Junior (Draco's pet ferret) hopped onto the king-sized bed only to rest on Draco's belly and curl up into a snuggly ball of fur. Seeing the ferret, Draco's hand subconsciously stroked the creature, letting his fingers run through the fluffy white fur.
The sensation comforted him somewhat as a tiny smile played on his lips upon seeing the charming creature. He had no idea who gave him the ferret as a present last Christmas, but he didn't mind it. He grew quite fond and grateful for it.
Draco glanced over his open window and pondered the world outside his bedroom, letting his mind wander further into a daze when, unexpectedly, an owl landed on the window frame carrying a letter between its beak.
His head snapped to look at the owl with confusion painted on his expression. It wasn't his owl or any of his parents, it was foreign. It didn't belong to the Malfoys, that's for sure. So if it's no one's, then who is it?
He sat up on his bed, jolting Draco Junior from its nap, before swinging his legs over the edge of the bed and striding over to the owl. He snatched the letter from its beak and watched the bird fly away as quickly as it came before turning to the mysterious letter.
He assessed the envelope, turning it over on its front and back, but found no name. He wasn't entirely sure if the letter was meant for him or not, as it wasn't addressed. But considering how it ended up in his room, in his hands, surely it was meant for him.
So without a second thought, he carelessly ripped the envelope open and eagerly read the letter, only to find his breath caught in his throat. His eyes saw a glimpse of the sender's name, and his heart suddenly had a surge of panic and excitement.
'Dear Draco,
I hope this letter finds you well. How's your summer been? I bet you're having the time of your life with all that wealth. Haha.'
Draco half-heartedly chuckled. He was wealthy, alright, but he wouldn't say he was having the time of his life, considering how he was dying of boredom a moment ago.
'Anyway, I'm sorry if I disturbed your perfect holiday, but I couldn't help myself! I've always wanted to write to you and share stories with you, even outside of Hogwarts. I'm far too impatient to wait for the summer holiday to end just to talk to you. Of course, only if you want to.
If you're curious about what I've been doing over the summer, I'd say that I've been practising on my broomstick and improving my flying skills. That way, I can beat you in a game of Quidditch next year in the tournament. Muhahaha!
