Y/N gasped. Her body sprang upright in bed, breathing heavily. A synchronised sigh of relief came from the professors and matron surrounding her bedside, as Hermione lunged towards her for a tight hug. She blinked blankly, still processing everything.
One moment she was in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, and the next at the Hospital Wing, getting squeezed by Hermione in a longing embrace. It took Y/N a few seconds to register the sensation before returning the gesture with a tight embrace of her own.
"Hermione, you're back!" She exhaled, relieved that the girl wasn't petrified anymore.
"I am," Hermione giggled and pulled away to look at her friend's features, who was still wearing her four layers of goggles over her eyes. "Ehem, question. Why are you wearing so many goggles?"
"Oh," Y/N had forgotten about that. "To protect myself from the basilisk's gaze." She casually said.
Not only did Hermione, but even the professors and matron gasped in shock. They all looked at Y/N's youthful figure before giving each other a look that said 'She knew?' and 'How could she have possibly survived?'. They were buzzing with questions about how she had ended the way she did, and what her last moments were before getting petrified by the basilisk.
"So you figured it out! You figured it was a basilisk, too!" Hermione said ecstatically, knowing her theory was correct.
"Thanks to you, Hermione." Y/N winked. "I couldn't have done it without you."

Even though it felt like the blink of an eye (literally), it was already nearing the end of the school year. Y/N didn't expect much to change in her life, and honestly expected to remain the same as before she got petrified: lonely and lacking a connection with the main characters.
She came to the feast that night, hoping to find some comfort through food, as it was the only thing that could bring flavour to her bland life now. On her way to the Great Hall, she could already smell the seasonings of the food and the warmth that radiated through students' laughter from just standing outside the Entrance Hall. As pleasant as it was, it only made everything more bittersweet for her, knowing that she couldn't have that kind of friendship and happiness from the main characters anymore. (Except with Hermione)
She felt like leaving, not wanting to see anyone and deal with her emotions, but she knew better than to give in to her fears. She knew she had to be brave, even if she was on her own, and that she shouldn't let anything sway her resolve, her spirit. Hence, with a few deep breaths, Y/N forced herself to put up her usual upbeat attitude, determined not to show any weaknesses in front of the crowds.
She marched forward and stepped over the threshold of the Great Hall, her eyes glued to the ground to avoid seeing other people's gazes. She honestly wasn't expecting anything to happen upon entering, but to her surprise, she heard Harry and Ron calling her name in the distance with excitement. Curious and unsure, she glanced up from the ground and saw the boys dashing straight towards her with a cheerful grin.
Had she imagined them appearing happy to see her?
At first, Y/N had initially thought they wanted to throw fists at her, thinking they were still under the impression that she was the Slytherin heir. Her body stiffened, preparing herself for the worst as she overthought the situation, when Harry and Ron suddenly wrapped their arms around her.
"You're back!" Said Harry.
"We're sorry for ever doubting you!" Said Ron.
"We were wrong. Of course, you weren't the Slytherin heir, it was Tom Riddle!"
