The day of Arafah

It's a day to Eid Al Adha and as the normal practice, Muslims are to fast on this day.

Jameelah sat in front of the TV, watching the live presentation from Makkah, Saudi Arabia, of the pilgrims performing the year's Hajj.

It was an emotional sight, seeing them all in their Ihram climbing the mountain of Arafah. Some people are already up there and they're so engrossed in making Dua.

Jameelah felt a deep sensation in her that draws towards the whole scenario. She was silently muttering the Dua recommended for the day."Lailaha illallah wahdahu la sharikallah..."

Amr ibn Shu’ayb reported: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “The best supplication is that which is made on the day of Arafah. The best of it is what was said by myself and the prophets before me:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration: laa ilaaha ill-allaahu, waḥdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa ‛alaa kulli shay’in qadeer

Translation: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without a partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and all praise, and He is over all things omnipotent.

...then she stopped abruptly and made a loud Dua.

"Ya Allah, please do not make visiting your house forbidden for me. Invite me to your house Ya Rabbul baytul Ka'aba" Then she rubbed the Dua over herself and continued watching until her mom summoned her.

"Kinni Jameelah nṣe? Ṣe o nka iwe ni? (What's Jameelah doing? Is she reading?)" Her mom approached from the dining room and she got up on impulse.

"Kare (well-done)" Mrs Abdul Razaq said and Jameelah responded with a sheepish smile.

"Mom we don't have anyone that went to Hajj this year àbí?" She asked

"Ah, I don't think so" Her mom shook her head

"So sad. Would have asked them to make Dua for us"

"But you can always make your Dua yourself too. Remember on the day of Arafah, Duas made are readily answered"

The Day of ʿArafah (9th of Dhul Ḥijjah) is the best day of the year. It is the day on which sins are forgiven, souls are released from the Hell-fire, and duʿās are readily accepted. This day is also special because it was the day Allah (subḥānahū wa ta‘ālā) bestowed upon our Ummah’s greatest gift: He perfected the religion of Islam and completed His favour upon us.

"Na'am" She smiled and stretched her hands forth again praying, this time silenly "Ya Allah, Ya Dhal Jalaali wal Ikram, Please make it easy for me to be able to do Hajj on behalf of my Dad" At this point, a lone tear escaped her eyes and she was quick to wipe it off.

Ever since the passing of her dad, it has been a bitter reality for her, knowing that her dad never had the opportunity to perform the holy pilgrimage.

Not that he didn't want to, but he wasn't bouyant enough in his lifetime though he wished that one day he will perform Hajj but that never happened.

Jameelah always felt a pang in her chest whenever the reality hits her and she is always very bitterly sad about it. She's made up her mind, that when she grows up and become successful, she would perform Hajj on his behalf, Allah willing. So any opportunity she gets, she would make Dua, so that Allah makes it come through.
