The training chamber hummed with raw energy as Shadow and Y/N faced off, their bodies poised for action. Overhead, sleek panels of reinforced steel housed an array of observation equipment, all tuned to track their every movement. The ARK's artificial gravity ensured they had stable footing, but the air itself crackled with Chaos Energy—most of it radiating from Y/N.
She stood in a defensive stance, her breath steady despite the faint golden glow pulsing around her fingers. Across from her, Shadow narrowed his eyes, fists clenched as he prepared to charge. Unlike her erratic bursts of energy, his power was subdued, controlled—though that control was still newly developed.
Gerald Robotnik watched from a raised platform, his hands folded behind his back. His sharp eyes darted between them, observing their progress with a mix of fascination and paternal care. "Steady, Shadow. Chaos Control requires precision. You can't force it."
Shadow exhaled sharply and focused, recalling everything he had been taught. Energy coursed through his body as he attempted to shift space around him, to disappear in one location and reappear in another. It should have been simple in theory, yet—
A flicker, a distortion in the air—then nothing.
Shadow tensed in frustration.
Across the training room, Y/N smirked. "Aww, almost had it that time. You'll get there eventually."
His ruby eyes flashed. "At least I don't destroy everything when I use my powers."
Y/N scoffed, rolling her shoulders. "Oh, please, I'm getting better. Gerald, tell him I'm getting better."
The professor chuckled, rubbing his chin in thought. "You are, Y/N. But Shadow isn't wrong. Your Chaos Energy is still... unpredictable. We need to refine it further so you can use it without risk."
Y/N huffed, but deep down, she knew they were right. Shadow was methodical, building his power from the ground up, while she was a spark ready to ignite at any moment. It wasn't her fault—she hadn't been created with an external stabilizer like Shadow- Black Doom. The Chaos Emerald's essence itself had been woven into her very being, and with it came the constant struggle of balance.
Still, she couldn't resist teasing him. "At least I can teleport," she quipped before vanishing in a golden blur.
She reappeared behind Shadow in a burst of flickering light, but the moment she did, the energy she had summoned spiked violently. The air snapped with electricity, and a sudden wave of force sent her skidding back as golden arcs flared wildly around her.
