The blaring of alarms ripped Y/N from sleep.

Her heart pounded as she sat up in her pod, the flashing red lights reflecting against the metal walls of their quarters. A cold dread settled in her chest, sinking deeper when she realized what the sound meant.

Something was wrong.

A few feet away, Shadow bolted upright in his own pod, already on high alert. His crimson eyes flickered to Y/N before darting to the door. His instincts kicked in instantly.

"Maria," he breathed.

Before Y/N could even respond, the door to their quarters burst open.

Gerald stood there, out of breath, his usual composed demeanor completely shattered. Fear was etched into every line of his face.

"Run," he ordered, his voice shaking. "Now."

Shadow and Y/N froze for a split second.

"Professor, what's—"

"Go!" Gerald's voice cracked, desperation raw in his tone. "They're here! They're—"

Gunfire erupted from down the hall.

Shadow didn't hesitate—he dashed past Gerald, Y/N close on his heels.

The corridors of the ARK, once so familiar, were now a chaotic battlefield. Red warning lights pulsed overhead, casting eerie shadows against the steel walls. The scent of burning circuitry filled the air, mingling with the distant sound of screaming.

Y/N's mind raced as she followed Shadow. Who was attacking? Why?

Then she saw them.

G.U.N. soldiers. Armed, armored, moving in formation down the halls.

Her blood ran cold.

They were executing people.

Scientists—people who had raised her and Shadow, who had cared for Maria—fell one by one in bursts of gunfire.

Shadow skidded to a stop at a crossroads in the corridor, chest rising and falling rapidly. "Maria. Where is she?"

Y/N's pulse roared in her ears. "We—we need to find her—"

They took off again, weaving through the chaos.

They turned a corner too sharply, nearly colliding into a group of fleeing scientists.

Among them was Maria.
