Though the pain of not reaching the final still lingered in the next morning, after her morning therapy appointment (which she forgot to reschedule) she felt a little bit better. Maya decided to use the rest of that afternoon to clear her head, so she could go home and be a better girlfriend.
And no, she wasn't okay mentally, but when she saw Leah's small frown on the couch, she knew she had to put her own frustrations aside.
There was no need to talk, Maya already knew what was up with Leah. No questions asked, the purple haired girl wrapped the blonde around her arms, who then buried her head in her girlfriend's chest.
They stayed like that for a while, it turned from day to night, Maya was already hungry, so it was most likely past dinner time. But that didn't matter, because Leah needed to feel okay and the quiet chatter from the TV canceled out any noises her stomach could be making.
Maya kissed the girl's head, beginning to chat with her, hoping to raise her mood. By the time she had her laughing, the brown eyed girl got up from the sofa and connected her phone to the stereo.
"What are you doing?" Leah asked, a smile still lingering on her face.
Before she could be answered, a song started playing - Wrapped up in Your Warm and Tender Love by Tyrone Davis. "Come on, get up" Maya said, making her way back to Leah, who just shyly laughed in response.
Maya softly grabbed her by the wrists. "You've got to start moving more. Don't be scared, just lean on me" she said, getting Leah up.
"You wanna dance?" Leah asked, a completely foolish smile on her face. Gaze so tender, completely surrendered to Maya.
"Slow dance" Maya replied, a cute smirk on her lips.
She placed her hands on Leah's waist, who had her hands resting on Maya's hips. The purple haired girl pulled her closer, so their torsos were touching, and they started swaying left and right to the beat of the song.
Leah placed her head on Maya's shoulder, putting some of her weight on her. They stayed like that for the entirety of the song, smelling each other's scents, enjoying the warmth but especially the comfort of their tight embrace.
Dancing cheek to cheek, nothing else mattered.
Another song started, but they kept on slow dancing. "Let's order some food, shall we?" Maya suggested quietly.
"Pizza?" Leah murmured, the vibration of her voice hitting Maya's neck, before kissing it. The girl nodded in response, before taking the blonde's phone out of her pocket and using it to order pizza - the order already known.
The dancing didn't stop, act of intimacy greater than most things, just the simple sway of their bodies guiding them, hearts felt protected.
They belonged right there to that exact moment. That's what they've been searching for their entire lives. The craving of a million lifetimes.
Pizza arrived, the moment ended, but they were still feeling the rawness of that minute, of their love.
It's like her love for Leah never stops, it's always growing. Back in December, Maya never thought she could love her even more, but here she is, crazy in love, stupid childish laughs, everything's funny when they're together. Their dance still loitered in her mind, their lack of physical contact was now bothering her.
Leah had her mind wrapped around a sudoku. A stupid sudoku, from those books you buy in a waiting room of a train station or an airport. And it's silly, but that's when she realized.
Now she knew, it was more than love.
"Move in with me" Maya blurted out, pizza getting cold because she hadn't touched her second slice yet. No, not when she had such a perfect work of art in front of her.
By the lack of reaction from Leah, who simply looked up from her sudoku and straight into Maya's eyes, the girl knew she had to continue speaking, she couldn't just leave it there.
"Come live with me, it's stupid for you to pay rent when you barely stay at your place. Here's closer to Beth's and Wally's, so they can help you when I'm busy. And even when you're recovered, I'll still want to live with you, it's not like it's temporary... I love you and I want to live with you. I know sometimes I'm a lot, but there's always the music room, so I can go there when we fight. I'll sleep on the couch when you get sick of me for the night too".
Breathe in, breathe out.
"I wanna cook you dinner, split the bills, all that. Clean the fridge too, and vacuum under the sofa. That's a two person job, definitely. Those day-to-day things, I wanna do them with you. And I know it's all really out of the blue and we've barely discussed it, but I think you like staying here and living with me... You don't have to answer today, really. Just think about it, please. Maybe it's too soon, but it feels right to me, and I hope it does to you too".
Okay, that's it. Every thought now out on the table. Too busy trying to articulate words to notice the amused smile on Leah's face.
"I love you too" Leah said, trying to organize her thoughts. She dropped the pencil from the sudoku and put that hand over Maya's. "I like living with you too, and this is kind of good timing... Let me think about it, alright?"
Maya smiled while nodding, feeling some relief. "You look cute when you're nervous" the blonde added, before kissing Maya's hand.
