Ch. 28

Three nurses came in, as I'm trying to rip the wires from my body. The nurses all take an arm and leg of mine and hold me down to prevent me from getting off the bed. One nurse takes a needle from her pocket and stabs me in the thigh with it. Within seconds, I calm down. I stop thrashing. I get sleepy.

"Please," I whisper.

The nurses all take a step back from the bed.

"Somebody, please listen to me. I'm not safe-"

Then I was out cold.

Nikki

I'm in shock. What just happened? I grab the nurse by the arm.

"Brenda? Maybe you should look into seeing if his dad is actually dead. I truly don't think this was a psychotic episode."

"I will if it's necessary."

The nurses start wheeling Jason's bed out of the room.

"Where are they taking him?" Isa asks.

"Psych unit. Just to be safe."

"You need to check. Now." I demand.

I grab the hospital stamped pad and pen from the counter and I write down Emil's name and hand her the paper.

"Please. If he's still alive, Jason's telling the truth. He isn't safe here."

Brenda looks at me and takes the paper.

"I'll go now." She says.

Isa and I sit back on the chairs in the room while we wait. I text Cody and Kyle and tell them what just happened. Kyle immediately calls and I put the phone on speaker so Isa can be involved with the conversation.

Kyle sounds like he's rushing around. We hear his car door slam and the start of his engine. He hangs up after he says he's on his way. Cody blows up my phone with texts. He also says he's on his way.

10 minutes go by. Brenda comes back to the room with sadness in her eyes.

"I'm so sorry. I made a terrible mistake. Mr. Boselli is alive."

Isa drops to her knees and screams.

"We need to get Jason out of here. He's in a lot of danger."

"How didn't he fucking die?" I ask.

"I... I don't know. Who told you he was dead?" Brenda asked.

"Kathy." Isa says, crying.

"Kathy?"

Isa describes her again.

"I don't know if I know her." Brenda says. "But I'll make sure there's security for Jason. I'll have him brought back."

She leaves the room and Kyle comes flying in.

"Mom!" He says.

Isa looks up at him.

"Get up."

He goes over and pulls her up under her armpits.

"The devil lives." She cries.

"Yeah. I heard. Where's Jason?"

"Took him to the psych unit. They're bringing him back." I answer.

"Why didn't they listen to him?" Kyle asked.

"History of mental illness, I guess." I shrug.

Cody and Becca come running in.

"What the fuck is going on?" He asked.
