Stepping outside, Bulma and Gohan left Goku to be alone with Y/n for a moment. Goku smiled down at her as he leaned on the glass of the lid, staring down at her face. Despite being lifeless, she was just as beautiful as Goku always remembered. He burned the image of her face into his memory, scared that he might forget one day. He would never allow himself to forget her, even if he lost his memories.

"You probably don't remember it, but you spent a lot of time here before," Goku spoke, finger tracing patterns into the glass, like he might just reach through to her skin. "I think that was when my feelings for you began to form. You were just so cute, and you treated me like a normal person. You didn't talk to me like I was dumb."

Back then, Y/n was just a normal human girl. Her dreams gave her issues, but she still lived the average life of a human. That was before either Goku or Gohan had gotten very involved in her life. Goku blamed himself for the way things turned out for Y/n. If he had acted differently, if he hadn't dragged her into the dangers of his life, maybe she would still be alive. Maybe her memories wouldn't have disappeared. And she would have never gone through what happened in the future.

"I'm sorry I failed you, Y/n. I hope that, wherever you are, you're finally getting the rest you deserve," Goku said as he leaned his forehead on the cool glass.

After a moment, Goku finally stepped back, leaving Y/n to her rest. And as he stepped outside, he slid the doors closed, taking away the light of the moon with him, leaving the room in darkness. 

As soon as he got back, Goku collapsed into the bed that he had been sharing with Y/n only a few days ago. Her scent was still heavily laden in the blankets, and the only reason Goku could stand to lay in it was because he had already cried all of his tears. Now all that remained was a dull ache in his head, a constant reminder of what he had lost.

The ache never really went away after that night. Every night when he went back to bed, he ended up shedding his tears all over again, even as the scent eventually faded, and there was nothing left but her preserved body to remember her by. Even all of her possessions couldn't remind Goku of her because she never could enjoy anything in life, nothing had brought her happiness except him. He himself was the only reminder of Y/n now.

And that was how every passing day went. Goku didn't dare leave his room for fear that, somehow, things might get worse, like how they did for Y/n. If he lost his memory of her, Goku really would lose all sense of reason to live. He was barely hanging on as it was, having lost his appetite and motivation to train. If he had it his way, he would rot away in the bed they had shared, until even his soul didn't remain.

He knew his friends were concerned for him. Time had begun to fly by when Goku spent most of the days sleeping, and he rarely stepped out of his room. It was hard to, knowing that was one of the last places he had spent time with Y/n. It felt wrong to leave the room now. And every time he stepped out, he somehow looked more and more messy.

Six long months passed just like that. Goku was sure his body was falling into disuse and growing weak, but what else could he do? He could barely leave his bed, let alone actually take care of himself. He had no interest anymore. He often wondered if that's how Y/n felt in her final days. The guilt for not helping more ate him up everyday.

A knock on the door jolted Goku away from his half slumber, tossing and turning in his bed as he tried to ignore the sound. The clearing of their voice caught Goku's attention as Bulma's voice piped up from the other side. "Hey, Goku, uh... Whis is here to see you. He says he wants you to come out."

"I'm taking a nap, tell him to go away," Goku huffed, gripping the pillow under his head and curling up. He could practically see Bulma crossing her arms from the other side of the door.
