The next week was the most fun I'd had in a long time. I let go of the weight I'd been carrying for once and just lived in the moment. No stress, no pressure—just me, my friends, and Mattheo.
We spent our days skipping classes when we could get away with it, sneaking out to the Black Lake, playing stupid games in the common room until late at night, and making the most of every second. The war, the expectations, my past—it all felt so far away, like something I didn't have to deal with just yet.
Mattheo and I grew closer, too. He was still the same cocky, teasing guy, but with me, there was something softer underneath it all. We'd steal moments alone, talking about things neither of us had ever told anyone before. I was still scared—scared of letting him in too much, scared of what would happen if I lost him—but for now, I let myself enjoy what we had.
For once, I wasn't just surviving. I was actually living.
I was lounging on the common room sofa with Enzo and Theo, half-listening to their conversation as I absentmindedly played with the hem of my sleeve. It had been a good day—calm, for once. No drama, no stress. Just a quiet moment with my friends.
Then Mattheo strolled in, that signature smirk on his lips as he made his way toward me.
"I left you a little surprise in your room," he said casually, leaning down so only I could hear. His voice was low, teasing, sending a shiver down my spine. "Go check it out. And get ready—I want you to meet me back here at eight."
I raised a brow, intrigued. "A surprise?"
He nodded, his smirk widening before he leaned in just a little closer. "Trust me, you'll like it." Then, just like that, he pulled away and walked off as if he hadn't just piqued my curiosity beyond belief.
Enzo nudged my arm, grinning. "What do you think it is?"
Theo smirked. "Knowing Mattheo, it's either something really sweet... or really reckless."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the small smile tugging at my lips. "I guess I'll find out."
With that, I pushed myself up from the sofa and headed toward my dorm, heart pounding slightly with anticipation.
As I stepped into my dorm, my breath caught in my throat. Hanging on the door was a stunning dress—elegant, perfectly my style, and clearly chosen with care. My fingers brushed over the fabric, soft and luxurious, and I couldn't help but smile.
Mattheo.
I took my time getting ready, slipping into the dress and letting it fall effortlessly around me. It fit like it was made for me, hugging in all the right places. I curled my hair slightly, letting it cascade over my shoulders, and applied just enough makeup to enhance my features.
When I finally looked in the mirror, I barely recognized myself. I looked... gorgeous. A small, rare moment of confidence settled in my chest. Maybe tonight would be special.
With one last glance, I grabbed my things and headed out to meet Mattheo, excitement bubbling inside me.
As I stepped into the common room, all conversation seemed to stop. My friends turned to look at me, and their faces said it all—pure shock.
"Bloody hell," Enzo muttered under his breath, earning a nudge from Theo, who was grinning. Pansy's eyes widened before she smirked knowingly, while Astoria clapped her hands together in excitement.
Mattheo, however, was the only one I was looking at. He stood there, dressed sharper than usual, his dark eyes scanning me from head to toe. For the first time since I'd met him, he seemed... speechless.
