33. Getting Along-ish

Start from the beginning

"Thats a lot." Gunnar nodded.

"Your turn. Tell me about yourself."

"Well, me and Taloa moved her a few months ago. We came because our parents died and we wanted a new start. Umm, and I like...dragons?" Gunnar responded, not sounding very sure about the last part.

"I'm sorry for your loss." I smiled solemly. "I get it."

"You get it, do you?" He started to get defensive.

"Uh, yeah. My mom died." I said.

"Well, at least you still have a dad. I'm stuck with a vexing little sister! Have you ever thought that maybe a 'sorry' is enough. I don't need your sob story to go along with mine!" Gunnar shouted.

"I was trying to relate. I was trying to make you feel even a little bit better. But fine, screw you, too!" I stormed out.

"What happened to you?" Snotlout laughed, sitting on top of a cart.

"Gunnar." I grumbled, crossing my arms.

"Makes sense." Snotlout nodded. "I don't really like hin. He's so cocky."

I scoffed. "Says you."

"You take a bath." Snotlout pinched his nose, swatting me away.

"Bye." I sing-songed, walking to Sapphire. For some reason, Snotlout always either made me facepalm or smile, sometimes both.

I grabbed a bar of lye soap, made from animal fat.

"Come on, Saph." I said. We flew around the island to a secluded lake with we called 'Lily Lake'. It was know for its beautiful water lilies of many colors, as well as its large waterfall that casacded into it.

I took off my clothes and stepped into the cold water. I shivered slightly as the water lapped at my shoulders.

Then, I slowly lowered my head under the water. "Saph!" I called, resurfacing. "Bring me my soap?"

Sapphire gurgled, walking over to me. "Thanks, girl.

I washes my body and hair until I was clean.

"Ah!" I jumped slightly when a fish swam past my leg.

Sapphire made a laughing noisefrom the back of her throat.

"Ha-ha. Very funny." I said, trying not to smile.

"Boo!"

This time, I actually screamed. I turned around to see Astrid. She was clutching her stomach, laughing.

"You scared me." I breathed out.

"I know." She said.

I gave her an unamused look. Astrid then spoke, "Snotlout said something happened with Gunnar?"

"Yeah. We were mucking out some of the stalls when he threw poop all over me. Then, he started talking about how his parents are dead. I tried to relate by saying my mom was dead and I understand the feeling. Then he started yelling at me." I explained.

"He's a jerk." Astrid responded.

"Are you sure that's all you said?" Stoick asked me. "You do tend to say things you shouldn't."

"I'm positive." I replied.

My father sighed. "Try to get along. Just one more time."

"Last time." I said.

"Maybe."

"I'll take it." I walked off.

"Hey, jerk." I aproached Gunnar.
