Mattheo sat on the floor of his dorm room leaning against the foot of his bed with his old sketchbook. For the first time in months he was drawing, using a charcoal pencil to shade in Claire's dark waves. Drawing a portrait from memory should be difficult, but he'd had Claire memorized for years.

The first time he saw her, really saw her, was in their third year. It was the first Hogsmeade trip and they both happened to be in Scrivenshafts Quill Shop. He'd been picking up new drawing materials since Lucius refused to buy them when he'd send the boys to Diagon Alley for back to school shopping.

They were both looking at the quill selection. He'd been having trouble finding any quill that drew the way he wanted. Claire scanned the shelves before confidently choosing the quill she needed. Her assuredness had him asking for her opinion on which quill was best. Of course, she wanted to know what for, explaining that the type of quill depended on preferences and uses. He admitted it was for drawing, a little abashedly, but she wasn't fazed by his admission at all. She just pulled what she'd called a pencil from her bag and handed it to him. It was a muggle utensil used for writing and sketching. She'd mentioned that charcoal pencils might be better for blending and other things but she didn't draw so she didn't have any of those on hand.

That interaction started his contraband collection of muggle art supplies, and his infatuation with her. He still had the pencil she'd given him. It was worn down to almost a nub and wasn't usable anymore. He kept it safely tucked away in his box of art supplies.

Finished with her hair, he moved his pencil to work on her eyes. They were his favorite features of hers. He always had trouble getting them right, never able to capture the depths of emotion they emitted in real life. Concentrating on the drawing, he didn't hear Theo and Enzo enter the room.

"You're here?" Enzo asked, making him look up from his drawing. "When you never came back to the courtyard we thought—"

"We thought we wouldn't be seeing you the rest of the night," Theo finished.

"I already told you." Mattheo's hand tightened on his pencil. "With Claire, it's not just about sex."

"So, if you weren't making moves on her, what were you doing all that time?" Theo asked.

"We were talking." Mattheo shrugged, going back to his drawing.

"You were just talking?" Theo asked incredulously.

"What were you talking about?" Enzo asked.

"Umbridge," Mattheo admitted gruffly.

"Umbridge?" Enzo asked with a smirk, his eyebrows raised. He'd had Claire alone for at least an hour and they'd talked about a professor. "Seriously?"

"Umbridge is hurting kids in detention. Including Claire's sister, Jane. Claire wants to reveal this to the wizarding world since the school can't do anything about it. We're going to gather evidence so she can send it to a publication." How they were going to do that and to which publication they would trust to actually print the information, they had yet to figure out.

"We?" Enzo asked, amused. Of course he would pick up on the plural pronoun.

"So, you're helping her again?" Theo asked, shaking his head with a smirk.

"Is that your idea of flirting? Because that is not obvious." No wonder Claire had no clue Mattheo was interested in her.

"I have to agree with Enzo, unless you're planning on spending that time together flirting."

"That's not why I'm helping her." Mattheo looked up from his sketchbook, exasperated.

Claire was more than just someone he wanted to seduce. She was someone he enjoyed being around; even on their walk when she was silently agitated, her jaw tensed and her brows furrowed creating an adorable crease in the middle of her forehead.
