"How are you guys letting this happen?" I questioned Alizeh as she invited me for Zaina's engagement taking place tomorrow night.
"That Farhad didn't decline the proposal and Zaina's father just wants her out. So she is getting married to whomever. She didn't decline after coming home yesterday." Alizeh questioned on the call.
"You all were present yesterday when that bastard threatened her. What is Zain doing? And that Ahaan and Azaan who keep on saying such big words to me? And Kabir who's supposedly her best cousin?" I accused.
"What's it to you?" Alizeh questioned in a sharp tone.
"You set me up yesterday." I complained.
"No. I only advised you. You're the one who came to the restaurant on your own. As for everyone knowing, I share everything with my husband and he in turn shares everything with his brothers who share everything with their wives. That's how the whole squad knows you got rejected." Alizeh was clearly suppressing her laugh.
"So you told them about our past too?" I questioned.
"No. That's your and Zaina's personal matter. I don't have any right to speak about it. All the cousins think Zaina just likes you and-"Alizeh stuttered.
"And?" I asked in a careful tone.
"They think you like her too and by coming to the restaurant yesterday, you cleared all their doubts." Alizeh spoke at the speed of a bullet train.
I exhale sharply, and walk to the edge of my bed, as my weight makes the old mattress creak beneath me. "I don't know what to do anymore." I admitted.
Alizeh's voice grew softer, "I am not guilt-trapping you to do something. But the truth is, the pictures which ruined her life. You were present in it. The situation here is very messy. The Aziz family aren't like our family. It's certain they will rest only after getting her married. I just hoped it could be to a good person. And truth be told, the Aziz family wanted you two to get married first because that would have been the best to cover up her reputation and theirs but Zaina clearly declined."
"I still don't get why she would reject me." I replied frustrated, moving my hands through my hair.
"Next time, when you ask a girl to marry you, don't make it seem like a favour." Alizeh replied. I had told her the exact conversation Zaina and I had only for her to rip my hair apart again.
"Why are you so free? Shouldn't you be busy with your sister-in-law's engagement and your own wedding reception coming up?" I taunted so she would leave me alone.
"Ok bye." Alizeh scoffed, cutting the call.
As soon as Alizeh kept the call, I picked up the number that was flashing on my screen for the last thirty seconds.
