"What's wrong with me?" Y/N muttered, confusing her companion at first. "Why can't I control it?" She yelled out, her slight erratic behaviour as she lashed causing the hero in training next to her to back off a little in hesitation. He only realised after that backing away was a mistake, recalling his promise to his master, he considered this part of the task.
"Maybe I can help you?" All Might questioned softly, unwavering from the teary, narrowed gaze of the young Shimura.
"How are you going to help me?" Y/N scoffed a little, truly believing she was beyond help. He only smiled.
"Follow me."
A small distance away from the school, y/n stood next to All Might, watching the water in the riverbank that became a painful reminder of what had happened earlier on in the day. Pain lurched in her chest as she forced herself to look away, choosing to focus on the male next to her. "So how exactly can you help me?"
Y/N was stunned at what he did next, holding his hand out flat...
"Take your glove off and hold my hand." His complete confidence left her shocked, confused and only able to say one word.
"What?" Taking a step back, y/n hugged herself, heart beating in a panic.
"Hold my hand."
"N-no. I can't..."
"Do it. Trust me."
"I don't want to hurt you..."
"You won't hurt me. I know you won't."
As e/c eyes met deep blue ones, y/n felt magnitised. Locked in. Trapped. There was a feeling in her heart, it felt like butterflies. Seeing how certain he was, it made her slowly remove the glove from one of her hands. Not having it forcefully removed allowed her to feel the breeze touch her hand in a way she hadn't felt in years, it was a strange, almost tickling feeling. Paler than the rest of her body, she examined the details, the veins that appeared in random patterns. Suddenly a flash appeared in her mind, back to the disruption that had been caused by her slightest touch. It felt as though she was reliving all the times her quirk had accidentally caused someone horrific damage, such as the time from earlier today, and like the time where her mother had lost a friend because her quirk had destroyed the urn of the person's great great grandmother...The build up of so many moments sent y/n into a breathing fit.
"No I can't." She whispered, frantically trying to shove her glove back on.
"Hey, wait! Okay, we can work up to it? Try this instead." As swift as he could, he grabbed a pencil out of his book bag, holding it out for the young Shimura to touch. She hesitated for a moment, fighting with herself before choosing finally to reach out. Carefully, y/n bare hand touch the tip of the pencil, instinctively she held her breath from the nerves. Panic filled her as she began to she the top deteriorate, her held breath turning to rapid lung movements.
"Hey, y/n, relax. Nothing is going to happen okay, not while I am here..." His smooth voice pulled her from her panic, her eyes making contact with his as they both held onto opposite ends of the pencil. Once again, she found herself magnitised by his bright blue eyes, leaving her breathless as she realised how easily it was to get lost in them. The way his long blonde bangs framed his face along with the fluffy mess of hair added to the lure, keeping her trapped. Carefully, as to not break the concentration, the blonde let go of the pencil, giving it a few more moments before he broke into a charming smile. It took her a moment to break away from his stunning eye contact, but when she did, she realised that she was still holding a pencil. It hadn't broken into pieces...
"You did it!" The boy laughed out, joyful with the success. Y/N could only stare in amazement as she admired the pencil, using fingers to admire the feeling of the wood that changed to metal, before ending with the rubber eraser at the end. Realising that she was able to somehow hold a pencil, she smiled at the first, tiny bit of control she finally had on her abilities.
"Ah, All Might, there you are! I was wonderi-" It was like a switch. The loud, confident voice of Nana Shimura startled the peace of the scenario. Y/N was the first to flinch in surprise, losing all the control she thought she had as the pencil broke to pieces, hitting the ground shortly after. But rather than be sad or disappointed, she chose to focus on the bigger issue.
"Mom?" Y/N's voice came out as unsure, her heartbeat rising as she tried to think of a reason why her mother would have shown up here, and why she mentioned her classmate's name.
"Y/N, put your glove back on! You know it's dangerous to have it exposed. Especially after what happened today, the principal called-"
"Why are you here? Why where you looking for him?" The daughter snapped, her eyes narrowed as she attempted to get an answer out of her mother.
"Y/N, can you please do as I say? It's important that everyone is safe..." Nana reached out, her eyes loving as she tried to help her child calm down.
"No! Not until you tell me exactly what is going on here!" Y/N demanded, backing away in anger as she glared at her parent.
"Y/N, I can explain..." All Might's voice settled her nerves a little, but not enough to reduce the anger she felt as her eyes burned through her mother, needing an answer. Needing a reason to lash out the way she wanted to.
"No All Might, let me do the talking." That was all it took for the young male to back down, silently watching the altercation with concern. "Y/N, I have been helping this young man with training, I helped him get into UA through recommendation. We meet here regularly to check his progress to make sure he's as successful as he can be. I was hoping you would both get along, it seems you do." She grinned wider, happy to see her child and student getting along.
Yet her joyfulness never reached y/n. Instead, it only made her daughter worse, as her anger boiled over into rage and betrayal as she summarised the excuse into one sentence. Her mother betrayed her, betrayed her brother. Not only that, but she even went as far as to replace him!
"I can't believe you." Y/N snarled, her eyes dark as her gaze fell to the concrete ground, desperately wanting to reach down and destroy it, destroy everything associated with her mother, down to the ground she walked on.
"Y/N, please, don't say that..." Nana tried, her voice even softer as she did her best to maintain her smile, that always seemed to falter in these conversations.
"Shut up! You don't get it! What does he have that brother didn't? Why did you throw away your son just to replace him with some random? And he sees you every week? For the past seven years I have been lucky if I even see you once a month! Do have any idea how that feels? What that shit does to me?"
"Y/N, I do. Believe me, if I could-"
"No. I won't believe you. I can't trust you, or him!" Her exposed hand waved, gesturing to the blonde boy next to her in a dangerously close way. Her rage made her dangerous, and once again he made the cautious mistake of backing away. It didn't go unnoticed by y/n. "You used him to get to me. Both of you are in on some secret that you have, what, is being a hero more important than your own family? Are we such failures that you couldn't stand it and got him to take our place?" Y/N hissed, the anger feeding into a dark well of hatred that had just blossomed in her heart. It was all consuming, she didn't even hear what excuses her mother was trying to say as her hearing faded and her emotions dulled. Instead, silently she walked forward, passing her mother without a single look.
"You were right to give brother away. He deserves better than a mother like you..." Silence followed the statement, so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Forcing her glove back on, y/n continued to walk away, hot tears spilling out when she was finally far enough away to know no one was following her. She didn't know where she was going, but she knew one thing was for sure.
She was never going back to her mother's home. If she could even call the older woman that...
