Heer, still sobbing uncontrollably on the cold hospital floor, suddenly turned toward Shaurya and threw her arms around him. The force of her grief caught him off guard, making him stiffen. For a moment, he just stood there, frozen—unsure of how to react.

Hugs were never his strength. He wasn’t someone who expressed emotions through physical affection. Except for his mother and, occasionally, his girlfriend, he had never willingly embraced anyone—not even his brothers.

But this wasn’t about him.

With hesitation melting into quiet understanding, Shaurya slowly lifted his arms and wrapped them around her trembling figure. One of his hands moved gently to her head, stroking her hair in an attempt to offer some sliver of comfort.

He could feel her body shaking with every sob, could hear the anguish in her broken voice. And for the first time in a very long time, something in his chest ached—deep and painful.

He wanted to help her. To fix things. But how do you comfort someone who just lost their entire world?

Her voice cracked through the silence, desperate and heart-shattering.
“Mumma… pl–please… Mumma ko boliye… na… vo wapas aa jaayein…” she whispered between sobs. “Please… I promise… I’ll be a good girl… Please… Please… Mumma…”

Each word stabbed the air like a dagger. And then, all at once, her cries began to fade—growing weaker and weaker—until there was only silence.

Shaurya quickly looked down, his breath catching in his throat.
“Heer?” he called, shaking her slightly. Her body had gone limp in his arms, her face pale.

“Heer!” he shouted, cupping her cheeks, lightly patting them in an effort to wake her. But her eyes stayed closed. Her breathing, though still present, was shallow.

“Shit,” he muttered under his breath, panic surging through him. He didn’t waste another second. Standing up swiftly, he scooped her into his arms.

Just as he reached the doorway, it burst open, revealing Arhaan—and beside him stood a girl, her eyes wide with shock. It was Disha.

They both froze at the sight of Shaurya holding an unconscious Heer in his arms.

“Bhai? What happened to her?” Arhaan rushed forward, his voice laced with concern.

“She… she was crying, then suddenly fainted,” Shaurya replied, already striding past them. “Call the doctor!”

He carried her down the hall, shouting for assistance. Nurses came running, and soon a doctor stepped out from the emergency unit.

“Calm down, Mr. Shaurya,” the doctor said, checking Heer quickly before ordering a nurse to bring a stretcher. “She fainted due to emotional trauma. It’s a shock response. We’ll admit her and monitor her closely.”

As they wheeled Heer away, Shaurya’s heart pounded in his chest. The image of her fragile body, barely breathing, haunted him.

Once she was taken inside, he sank onto the bench outside the ward. His hands dragged down his face before settling over his eyes. His elbows rested on his knees, and for a moment, he allowed himself to feel everything—confusion, helplessness, and guilt.

He hadn’t known Devika well, but Heer… something about her fragile innocence, her quiet strength, had carved a space in his heart he hadn’t even realized existed.

Arhaan’s phone rang, and after glancing at the screen, he excused himself to take the call. He gave a quick nod to Disha before stepping out.

Disha walked over quietly and sat beside Shaurya. She didn’t say anything at first—just placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
