Chapter 17 - A New Promise

I sighed, "I guess the only good things about this is closure and Fred actually having his dad around."

"Promise?" I asked as I held my hand out to Adam.

"I always keep my promises remember?" He smirked.

I returned a smile, it hurt so much, but it was a good kind of hurt. It was a blast of the past, the person who I use to be. I was stronger, I dealt with hardship and got on with my life, I turned something bad into a positive. This was one of them.

Joshua crashed through the door, he was panting for air, "I heard you collapsed and-"

He froze as he laid eyes on Adam, "Hans."

"Braun."

I placed my hand on Joshua's shoulder, "I'm fine, it was just a shock."

Adam stood forward and held out his hand, "Thank you for taking care of my son."

Joshua's eyes widened, I expected him to argue or a moody remark. But he didn't.

"I know you would have, if it wasn't for your circumstances."

"I'm only in England for a few days, so could I come over tomorrow maybe?"

I blinked awaking from my daze, "Oh yes sure, Frederick would love to meet his dad."

"I'll give you a call and we can arrange a time." He told me before leaving.

Joshua slumped onto the coach, he was silent. I sat close by, unsure what to say.

"I was worried you were going to yell at him, I'm glad you didn't."

"So what's going to happen now?" He asked lowering his head.

"Nothing."

"But he's Fred's dad, isn't he going to stay, aren't you going back with him?" Joshua assumed.

I shook my head, "No because we both have moved on."

His eyes widened, "Really? Why?"

"He has a family and moved on long ago. I don't mind because it was by time I did too."

I placed a kiss on his lips before he wrapped his arms round me, "I was so worried, I thought I was going to be pushed aside and replaced."

He nuzzled his face into my shoulder I stroked his hair, "Don't be silly. I love you."

"Really? How do you know that?"

"You've been there for me and asked for nothing in return, if it wasn't for you, I don't know how I would have coped for the less few years." I admitted.

His eyes met mine, as a smile spread across his face, "Oh right, so you don't find me attractive or anything then?"

My face blushed I began to worry I offended him, "Of course I do. I was going to mention that."

He laughed at my bashful state before giving me a nudge, "Hey I was joking, stupid."

He took my hand as we headed out of the book store and back home together.

"Marie Irena Braun come back!" I yelled as I watched my 3 year old daughter run away.

It was meant be to a relaxing day out to the park, to feed some ducks and to have a picnic. But Marie had other plans. Joshua was carrying the bags, while I chased after the lively Marie.

It had been 5 years since Adam re-entered our lives, he came over from America for a week to spend time with Frederick. He was quite tall now and was quickly approaching his 15th birthday already. He was growing up to be an optimistic, charming young man. Although he was still childish at heart, playing with his new little sister and encouraging her to be as adventurous as he was.
