So this was how it was going to end. Not working hard enough in the factory, not just randomly shot for no apparent reason and not for being discovered by one of Adam’s co-workers or dropping dead in a slave camp. But no, I was going to die protecting my brother and my selfish need to avoid death as long as possible.

I was actually naïve enough to believe someone was coming to rescue us and free us from the monsters named the Nazis. I let everyone down, my mother in heaven, my father who had recently joined her, everyone who ever thought I had a chance in achieving in life and living, I had let myself down too.

I heard footsteps come up the stairs, I clung Tomas tighter as I closed my eyes shut. The footsteps were growing louder as they came nearer to the wardrobe, they found us and there was nothing I could do to stop them .

“Forgive me father...” I whispered.

The doors flew open and the light rained on our faces, dreading to look up to the figure before us. I didn’t want to know what was to come.

“Are you coming or not?” A voice asked.

Tomas’ face trembled as he realised it was Adam, “Please don't take us away!!”

I didn’t react as my gaze lowered, “It’s his job.”

“Do you want to die or not?!” He told him growing impatient.
“N...Not!!” Tomas cried.

“Come with me then.” He said holding out his hand to me.

I raised my head timidly as Tomas’ climbed out of the wardrobe; I slowly stepped out almost collapsing to the floor as I broke down in Adam’s arms.

I gripped his shirt as tears fell down my face, both the boys’ eyes widened, not even my own brother seen me this way before. My strong brave mask that I wore for so long for the last two years had finally shattered.

“You bastard, I thought..!” I sobbed deeply as I tightly held onto him.

His brown eyes softened for a moment as he looked down at me, “Well you thought wrong, I keep my promises. Except the ones that mean to stand by and watch people suffer, I don't like those ones too much.”

I faintly smiled as he placed a hand on my cheek, Tomas stood by nervously, “Erm... Don't we need to go?”

Adam heard voices outside; he peered over my shoulder, “Quick follow me.”

He placed his arm round me as he led me out the room as I gripped Tomas by the hand.

We left the building and hurried down the side alleys at the back of the ghettos, I glanced to see a van loading families and crying women and children. Gun shots sounding that caused us to quicken our footsteps. I never been so horrified, it was like a murder spree.

“Am, come on.” Adam said bringing me back to our situation.

All the sudden, I was led to an opening to a wired fence, which led out to the city beyond the walls of our own Jewish town. He ripped the Jewish star off my arm as he took me to an house close by, which must have been where he was staying. I heard voices in the living room; it was almost everyone from my building had been keeping refuge here.

Karin rushed to hug me, she wept quietly, I was astonished as I looked round the room.

“You saved everyone from the building.” I uttered in disbelief.

Adam sighed, “I should go back and save more.”
“No it’s dangerous and won’t they come looking for you if you don't go back to them?” Karin asked.
“I told them I was being transferred and that I wanted to find new Nazi recruits. Well they believed it anyway.”
