-Dave's Pov-
*the night (Y/N) was shot*
I dropped her off at the hospital and flew to the apartment. I went into (Y/N)'s place and unpacked everything for her. She wouldn't want to unpack everything with a hole in her stomach. I only needed to do one more thing before I left. I wrote a small note and left it on the counter. At the end of the note is wrote: p.s. I may never come back, but please remember you will always be in my heart.I ripped the end of the note off. I don't want her to think I'm never coming back even if it's the horrifying truth.
I left her apartment and locked the door. I took the stairs and went into my own apartment. Dirk looked up from the T.V. and took in my appearance. "You have a lot of personal problems little dude." He said and went back to playing on the Xbox. "Dirk. I'm leaving." I scratched the back of my head. "I don't know if,when I'm coming back." Dirk nodded. "Will you be in touch?" He asked without taking his eyes from the screen. "No idea. Bye Bro" I nodded and walked out of the room.
I went around back and climbed up to the roof. I out stretched my wings and took off. While I was flying I had a flashback from a few nights before. A flashback from when I was fighting the other Demon.
"RUN!" I yelled and threw the Demon to the ground. "You're weak!" He hissed and got back on his feet. "You can't protect her! Not from usssss" he smirked and clawed at my face. "I don't want to fight you." He said and dodged my blow. "I want to help you. About fifty miles east of here is a system of caves inhabited by Demons. They will help you. They can help you protect her!" He leaped up and took off into the sky.
I needed to control my hunger. I needed to know what I have become. I landed in the nearby trees a few hours later. I folded up my wings and entered the cave. Hundreds of glowing eyes stared at me. "State your purpose" a voice boomed. "I want to learn to control my hunger" I said in my coolest sounding voice. "Head to the other room for evaluation." The voice boomed and the crowd of eyes parted so I could pass.
I entered the other room. There were about twelve other demons in the room. We all went silent as an older Demon entered the room. "Hello. Today will be one of the seven days designed to pick which if you will receive training on your chosen topic of guidance." He cleared his voice and continued talking. "Every day of this week two people will be killed until there is one left on the seventh. Then they will be taken to the final test. If the pass they live and claim their reward. If they fail, they die. Does everyone understand me?" "Yes, Sir" we all said in unison. "Great. Your first day starts now. Meet me in the training room in ten." We all grunted and started mulling over the information we had been told.
I started sizing up the other opponents. Many of them were small, and agile. Others with big, fat, and bulky. A few were made of pure muscle. I'd need to watch out for them.
I opened the door to the training room and stood on the spot marked "one". The others filed in and stood on a number. The older Demon entered the room again. "Every single one of you look down. That number is now your name. When I say number one I am talking to you." He stopped right in front of me. "I'm sorry Sir, but you are mistaken. My name is Dave, and I will respond to only Dave." I smirked. The next thing I knew he had slapped me across the cheek. "There is no arguing." He moved on to the next person. If he thought he had slapped some sense into me then he was right. However, it may not have been the kind of sense he wanted.
"Today's lesson. Weapons. Everyone chose a weapon off the back wall." I started walking towards the Katana only for it to be snatched by a rather tall mean looking douche. He smirked and walked away.
I was now the only one left by the back wall. Only a few weapons remained, and none of them were any good. "Number one. Have you found a weapon yet?" I opened my mouth to talk back but decided to ignore him instead and walk back to my spot unarmed. "Where is your weapon number one." He yelled. I could feel his spit fly onto my face but I dared not say a word. I will only respond if he calls me by my name. "Number one vs number eight." The Demon yelled.
"Get in the middle of the room. First one unable to continue will be killed and eliminated from the competition." I could see the old Demon smirking. I turned to face my opponent. He was the one who stole the katana from me. "Three! Two! One!" He yelled and number eight started running strait at me.
