Bittersweet

"It'll be quick I promise!" I say parking at a grocery store.

"Fine" April groans stepping out. We both step into the grocery store and I pull out my phone and open up the list of things my mom has given to me. Rachel is the one who would usually do the grocery shopping, however, she is on a break so I'm grabbing them.

"Grab a cart" I say to April. April grabs an empty cart that was near her and we both walk in. "Can you go grab the fruits and I'll grab the rest of the stuff?" I ask wanting to get out of here.

"Yeah, what do I need to get?" She asks slightly leaning on the cart.

"Apples, pears, bananas, grapes and a watermelon if there is any."
April nods making her way towards the fruits while I take the cart and look for the rest of the things on the list.

I walk down the isles looking for flour and baking soda. They should be in the same place.

"Cate" I hear a familiar voice call my name. I turn my head to see Chase walking up to me.

"Oh, hi" I say giving him a small smile. It's been about a month since I've seen him.

"How are you?" He asks stopping in front of me.

"G-good, you?" I ask surprised that he's actually speaking to me.

"I've been alright" He shrugs.

"That's good" I say making things awkward. Why can't I just be normal?

"What have you been up to?" He asks trying to avoid the tension.

"Nothing much, just working a lot" I shrug. "You?" I ask biting my lip.

"Working as well" He smiles.

"Same place or did you find a new job?" I ask thinking back to how he used to always complain about the one he worked at.

"Different" He nods.

"That's good" I smile making things awkward once again.

"Oh hi Chase" April says coming to the rescue.

"Hey Ape" Chase says turning to her.

"What you doing here?" She asks dropping the items she collected in the cart.

"Just picking up a few things before I head home." He shrugs.

"Just got back from work?" She asks while I awkwardly stand there.

"Yeah, and I have to get going" Chase says looking at the time.

"Alright, I'll talk to you later then" April says.

"Later, and it was nice seeing you again Cate." Chase says locking eyes with me.

"You too." I smile. He gives us a last smile before turning around and walking away.

"How was that?" April asks once he's out of sight.

"Hella awkward" I say letting out a breath.

"He wasn't, you definitely were." April chuckles.

"Shut up, I can't help it." I mumble heat rising to my cheeks.

"Yeah, yeah, let's just grab these things and get out of here." April says grabbing the cart.

"Ask Cameron to chill" April says all of a sudden.

"Why can't you just ask him?" I roll my eyes.

"Because, I don't want to seem annoying or obvious?" She says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"You guys have been talking for a while now I'm sure it's okay if you ask him for once." I say folding my arms.
