The rain beat noisily against the roof as I started to nod off. Today had been quiet, mostly because I had not met up with Justin today.
After the incident yesterday, I got in a argument with my father about his jersey. He claimed that Justin was being a playboy and wanted to 'claim' me. His words made me upset and I said: "He was just being nice. Why don't you understand that?" To which he retorted: "He's a boy!"
I left the scene without further problems and went to sleep. You wouldn't believe how happy I was when I woke up and saw that they had already left for work.
My finger twitched in annoyance as my phone began to ring and I sighed. I looked at caller name and my lips quirked into a tiny smile.
Speak of the devil...
I answered it. "Aw, I didn't know you would miss me to the point that you would call." I teased.
There was silence and my smile dropped off of my face. "Justin?"
Someone was on the other line. I could hear their soft breathing. "Um," A little girl's voice broke through and I let out a sigh of relief.
"Merissa?"
"Sí."
I wasn't quite sure what to say next and she wasn't sure either. I barely knew Spanish and she probably knew very little English.
"Justin," She started. "Very sick." Her english was broken but I understood.
"¿Muy mal?" I asked, making sure I was pronouncing right.
"Sí." She said quietly.
"I'll coming over okay," I said hopping up and looking for some shoes. "Um, estoy llegando a ayudarle." I prayed that she understood. Google translate only did so little.
"Gracias." She whispered before hanging up.
I let out a sigh and grabbed my jacket. I let a note for my parents and left the house. I drove faster than usual and nearly cussed out another driver for cutting in front of me without warning.
I parked in his driveway and knocked on his door. It opened not a second later by little Merissa and I smiled at her. She grabbed my hand and let me inside. We got up the stairs and I suddenly heard the sound of retching.
Merissa had a look of distress on her face and I patted her head. I braced myself and knocked on the bathroom door. "Justin."
"Desti-" My name cut off by the sound of gagging and my eyebrows furrowed in concern.
"Justin, do know what you have?" I asked.
"Probably just a stomach bug." He answered breathing hard.
"When you're done, just come out. I need to analyze this." I looked at Merissa and saw that she looked pale.
"Okay, doctor." It sounded like he tried to laugh but it came out as a cough.
I squatted in front of Merissa and felt her forehead with the back of my hand. "You're warm..."
I clicked my tongue and picked her up. "Guess I'm going to be a mother today."
I carried her downstairs and laid her down. "Stay here." She nodded and I went to the kitchen.
I searched for a washcloth and wet it with cold water. I had also found some gloves and some other cleaning tools. I came back placed it on her forehead. I heard the bathroom door open and footsteps followed.
I gawked at Justin's appearance. He was very pale, skin ashen with a layer of sweat, he was shaking, his hair was disheveled and he was wrapped in a blanket.
