Adventure Time with Fionna and Marshall (Fiolee)

Revenge

I turn around to see what she means. I feel my jaw drop as I look upon the dark purple and black cloud rising over the horizon. It's charged with lightning, sparking the nighttime-like darkness that covers the world like a suffocating blanket.

My ears twitch, catching the sound of screaming , "The Candy Kingdom, they’re in trouble."

Without a moment’s hesitation, Fionna starts running in that direction full speed. I roll my eyes, smiling to myself at her enthusiasm. I transform into my bat form; flying over her I scoop her up and fly us the rest of the way to the Kingdom.

We fly into the city boundaries, following the screams to the town center where we gasp in horror at the sight of Gumball dangling over the crowd, held up by an invisible force. My gaze follows up to a grinning Peppermint Maid, she laughs as Gumball kicks his feet in a feeble attempt to get down from her invisible grasp on the back of his shirt. "Hahaha," she cackles, "believe in magic now Gummy?" She swings him back and forth over the fearful crowd of candy citizens.

"Peppermint Maid!" Fionna leaps from my arms onto a nearby roof, "Put Gumball down now or I will personally end you for good!" She threatens, brandishing her sword towards Peppermint Maid. I form back and land behind her, ready for her command.

She cocks her head to the side for a moment, just looking at us, before she bursts out laughing. She throws her head back in full chortle, unable to control herself. "Ahahahahaha, oh the irony! If only you knew; this, this is just priceless." She drops Gumball, he screams but is caught by the candy people below. They fawn over him to make sure he's fine before rushing him off to shelter while Peppermint Maid stares us down.

"What irony? That I have to kill you again?" I step forward, challenging her.

She shakes her head in pity, "Oh Marshall; Marshall, Marshall, Marshall; you really have no idea."

I clench my fists, my anger boiling up inside of me, "Shut up!" I shout, not allowing her to distract me and get inside my head.

I hear a clatter, turning to see Fi waver in the corner of my eye, her sword sliding off the roof to the ground. I hold her around her shoulders, "Fi?!" I hold her up from collapsing onto the roof while Peppermint Maid just laughs in the background. I look up towards her and yell, "What did you do to her?!" I demand.

She smiles coolly, "All good things come to an end, Marshall;" she replies, "especially half ass things like Fionna there."

And just like that, Fionna starts fading away in my arms. Her breaths are jagged, and I can hear her heart beat slow, "M-mmarhsall," she exhales as her eyes close. I can feel her body shutting down under my fingertips. Soon no breath escapes her lips and she falls completely limp in my arms.

Shocked and confused I just gaze down at her motionless body, expecting this to be a trick or maybe just a bad dream that I'll wake up from and be in bed next to Fionna again. But the nightmare rolls on.

Peppermint Maid laughs maniacally behind me.

I blink away all tears, not letting one roll down my face, "I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!!" I lunge at her, enraged.

But just as I’m about to shatter her, she disappears just before I get my hands on her. I hear her laughter behind me, I whip around to see her invisible grasp holding Fionna's limp bod over the side of the roof. "Careful Marshall," she warns, "I'll easily put you in your place as well." She brings Fi's bod closer to her, "Shame, so much potential but never got the chance," she squishes Fi's face in her hand, "Oh well." She stares me dead in the eye as she lets her bod fall. I rush to catch her, but I’m stopped. I hit an invisible wall and watch as a sickening thud is echoes in my mind while she lays on the ground, a broken girl without any more chances.

"You're very welcome to join her, Marshall, all you need is to ask," I feel my muscles freeze and she glides over to me, her finger trailing along my jaw line, "make the pain go away, yes? Away from this crazy world that will never understand you, and instead with Glob and Fionna."

I look down at Fi, my heart bursting and threatening to rip out of my chest at the sight of her. But the innocence in her face was still there. She was at peace but I wasn’t, I was caught up in this messed up world where everything I know is now wrong. Could I...

But what would Fi do?

And then I found my way again. "No!" I defy, "Fionna would have fought to the death to protect the innocent from you and I'll make sure I finish what she wanted! I won’t turn my back on the people of Aaa now!" I rage, trying to break free of her magic grip on me. 

She clicks her tongue in disapproval, shaking her head, "Wrong answer." Her grip around me tightens, only allowing me to take shallow breaths under my crushing rib cage.

I close my eyes against the splitting pain down the core of my body. The grip relaxes a moment, allowing me to take a last gasp before I'm yanked onto my back, slamming me into the ground and getting all the wind knocked out of me.
