((For the record, i do not know about most details and facts that come up in the comic books of Adventure Time or Fionna and Cake. I just use my knowledge of AT, occasionally (not often enough) i look on the official wiki, sometimes discovering new details from the comics but it is too late to incorporate into my story, for example i was reading up on ice king's crown but ended up on Ice Queen's page and learned that she has different origins from ice king actually; (Its a quite interesting story). So im sorry for those of you real die hard fans who are probably pulling your hair out as you read this like 'this is all wrong!', but heres what i have to say to that: I'm the author, kinda. I get creative leeway. Plus isnt the whole point of fanfiction that we, the fans, get to make up whatever we want and fill in all the blanks with our own ideas and creativity? Ok, i admit getting Simone's name wrong in the beginning was textbook laziness on my part, but realize i write this story as much for you as much as i do for myself, so if i dont have a fact readilly in my head i will fill it in with what i feel works and would be cool. Goodness this turned into a rant, :p i was going to write one sentence, ONE, but off i went, geez. Anyway, hope you see my point of view and enjoy the rest of the story, sorry bout all of that ))

"You're right," Simone admits, "we'll have time later to explore The Book's power later. Let us find what we need." And with her words The Book flips through the pages till reaching its final place.

"'Glacies Gemma' or 'Ice Gems', most known for being worn by Ice Queen, aka Simone Petrikov, in a golden tiara." I read slowly. I look up to her for confirmation to continue; she nods, closing her eyes, her face calm. So I read on, "'The gems grant power and control over ice and snow and also protection from mind control attempts on the wearer like those of the Lich. The gems also grant immortality and 'wizard eyes', which allow the host to see the unseen.

"'But one must be cautious of these gems for they are one of the most dangerous gems in existence. Because in exchange for the power and protection, the gems feed off one's sanity, and blocks all existing memories of the host, replacing them with new memories and in turn giving the host a completely different personality. The gems have an addicting quality, once getting a taste of the power and of the gem's promises it becomes harder to resist wearing the gems. But constant resistance against the gem's power can delay these effects, allowing person to retain sanity for a longer period of time; but, change is inevitable. It is suggested that these gems are avoided at all cost." I finish the paragraph soberly.

Simone clears her throat loudly, "Well I guess we now know the accuracy of The Book: very." She turns The Book more towards herself, clearing her throat again, a bit more subtlety, "Book, can the Ice Gems be destroyed?" She asks in a clear voice. The pages turn to the last fourth of The Book, the new heading of the page labeled 'Destroying Gems'. "That's convenient," Simone admits, but then leans in closer to read the text.

"'To this date, no one has succeeded in completely destroying a Gem of Power. Although it is possible it can be very dangerous for those involved, especially for those who wish to destroy one of the more potent and undesirable Gems.'" She reads to us. She stops and looks up at us, "Are we sure we want to do this?"

"Yes!" Marshall and I say simultaneously, probably both knowing it’s what’s best for our little family.

Marshall leans forward, "Simone, we don’t want you to be burdened by this curse any longer, we want you." Simone sniffles and leans over the table and Book and embraces Marshall into a hug, then expands it out to include me and him together. "We will do anything and everything in our power to break the Gems' link to you."

"A link?" Simone pulls back a bit to look at him, "Perhaps that’s it, we don’t have to destroy the gems, just the link. That sounds easier." She contemplates to herself.

Marshall shrugs, "I just assumed the only way to break the link was to destroy them."

"Well what does the book say?" I interject, wanting to know for sure what the best way about this is.

"I think we should still destroy the gems, I wouldn’t want anyone coming across them and going through what I did, and I don’t want them falling into the wrong hands either." Simone points out.

"Well let’s just see what we're getting ourselves into first." Marshall states plainly, looking pointedly at the book.

"You're right, Marshall." Simone turns to the book again, "'Uhmm, 'Gems can be destroyed by Gems of higher power than themselves. See chart 42d.'" She diverts her eyes to another part of the page, "Oh, the Ice Gems are pretty high on the power list,"

"So can anything destroy them?" Marshall asks with bated breath.

She nods slowly, "There’s a couple above it but only one still in existence, it says."

"Which one?" Marshall and I cry at the same time.

She hands us the book. "'The Gem of Knowledge'?" I read aloud, "Where are we-" the pages begin to whir before I can even finish, turning to a section labeled 'Gem of Knowledge'. I pull the book closer, examining the picture of the gem, knowing I've seen it before.

Marshall goes ahead and reads the text, "'The Gem of Knowledge is the most powerful gem known in existence, making the old saying "Knowledge is power" very true.'"

"Where can we find it?" Simone pipes up to ask Marshall.

He turns a page and I watch his eyes scan the page, finally locking on to something, "'The Gem of Knowledge can be usually found set in the crown of... Prince Gumball of the Candy Kingdom.'" He says the name like he’s spitting out poison that should never dare cross his lips.

"I'll go." I stand up to leave but Marshall catches my wrist.

"Are you kidding? I’m not letting you anywhere near that sociopath." Marshall declares. "I'll go, you stay with Simone." He gets up to leave but I then catch him by the back of his shirt.

He tugs but I hold him there, "You really think Gumwad is going to hand over the gems to YOU of all people? He'll have you killed before you even enter city limits." I reason I then pull him into the hall just outside the room and whisper, "And look at the snow out there," I side glance over to the window where I can tell a storm is fast approaching. Marshall looks in the same direction. "You need to look after Simone; I think your presence helps keep her sane longer." We both look over to Simone who’s now hunched over The Book, reading intently.

He seems to consider this but then shakes his head, "No, I still can’t let you go. We'll find another way."

"What if I call Cake to come with me?" I suggest, "She can bring me all my stuff and you know she wouldn't let Gumball touch a single hair on my head."

He looks at me intensely, judging my judgment, "I still don’t like it," he wears down.

"Come on, I promise to stay out of trouble." I plead fakely.

"That’s never stopped you before..." he rolls his eyes, "Fine. Go call Cake." He agrees abruptly, turning away from me towards Simone. He sighs deeply and turns back to me, taking my face in his hands, "Really promise me. Swear that nothing will happen to you, nothing! I don’t want to see a single scratch on you when you get back. Promise!"

I stand on my toes and press my lips right up against his. The kiss is rough and hard, Marshall holds me up to him, my feet practically hovering above the floor. The kiss says 'sorry' but also 'goodbye', something I wish I hadn’t felt. I break away as this feeling comes through Marshall, "Promise." I say formally. He lets me down, but his arms linger around my waist, holding me close.

"I can't lose you both." He whispers almost inaudibly.

I look past him to Simone, still hovering over the book but every now and then winces or shakes head violently. It’s starting.

I hold the back of his head and force him to look at me, "Nothing will go wrong." I promise, "You'll never have to lose anyone ever again, not if I can help it." I then turn his head towards Simone, "Go, she needs you."

He smiles a sad crooked smile, "She needs you too. Go," with a last squeeze he releases me and goes to her side. And I search for holo-phone.
