(Four Months after the wedding)
I walked around trying to get clothes for my sister's baby. My mate was shopping for something in the same shop that I was in, so that was the reason as to why we were split up and him not shopping next to.
"Jessica?" someone asked from behind me. "Jessica Wallace? Is that really you?"
I turned towards the voice to see two brown eyes of someone I had known when I was fifteen. "Jace?" I asked, spying that he looked way different than he had when we were both in college. "Wow, look at you."
Jace smiled and glanced me up and down. Lust filled his eyes, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up at attention. "You do not look bad yourself," he replied. "What is your secret?"
I shrugged. "Happy marriage," I replied. I frowned when I noticed the saddened look in his eyes. "My husband and I have been married for three months now, and I feel fabulous."
Jace bit back a huff and took my hand. "We need to go," he said, trying to drag me away from where I was at. "We can have your husband meet us somewhere, but it is not safe here."
I pulled my arm from his grasp and took a couple of steps back. My whole body was tense, and I could feel my legs wanting to give out but held strong. "What are you doing?" I asked, shocked that this man was trying to grab me. "Whete are you trying to take me?"
"To a safe place," he said. "Look, there are-" He paused and sighed, looking around as if to make sure that we weren't being watched. "-there are people that are not what they seem," he said, softly. "I had the chance to protect you when you were young and didn't. This is me repaying my debt."
I shook my head no. Something in me was telling me not to trust him, because I knew that something was different. Something happened to him, and I could tell that maybe, just maybe he knew about the Supernatural World. "What do you mean, Jace?" I asked, making my voice tremble.
"I can't say," he replied. "It could lead to your unfortunate death."
"Lead to whose death?" a voice asked behind me.
My whole body shuddered with relief, and I almost made a squeak of happiness. I turned towards my mate to see him glaring at the male in front of me, his Wolf ready to take control and protect me. I didn't turn to look at Jace but made my way to my mate's side and sighed when I felt the sparks between me and my mate.
Jace scowled and glance between me and him. "Is this your husband?" he asked, disgusted.
I nodded my head and nudged David when he growled out a warning. "Well, I think we are done shopping. We need to get home to our tiny family, so ya." I waved to him before dragging my mate away from the male whom I had considered my friend.
"I don't trust him," David rumbled. He took me more into his arms, causing me to feel safer than I had been feeling.
I bit my lip and nodded my head, agreeing with him. I didn't trust him either.
