My breathe shook as I gaped at the sight. We drove past sunny streets and big buildings. Mark was talking to me but after awhile it just seemed like he was talking to himself.
"So when we get there we'll probably need to make 2 trips to get all the stuff in and then you can shower if you want, I'll order some take out. When she's done she can go to the old room and get dressed or throw on pj's or whatever." He ran a hand through his red hair and let it fall over his face. "Unpacking will be a bitch but it needs to get done." He hesitated. "Ah whatever I'll do it tomorrow." His voice faded as I zoned out on the outside world, looking at all the people and motion.
The taxi driver pulled up to a house that was actually quite modernly beautiful. "You live here??" I gaped at its awesome grandeur.
"Well... YouTube isn't exactly minimum wage." He smiled and paid the driver. We got out and popped the trunk, pulling out my two bags and setting them down I went back to grab a box, Mark grabbed his bags and a box as well, he explained that the boxes were some fan made things that people gave to him. I just kind of ran my hand over it. He really helped people. "This isn't even all of it." My eyes widened "there's a couple more boxes being shipped... By a couple I mean, like, 7? 8? I can't remember." I looked down at the boxes again and sighed.
"These people really love you."
"Yeah..." He sighed as well "I don't know why but I guess they do." He gingerly set the box down.
"You love them too, don't you?"
He stopped and smiled wistfully at the box. "I really do."
We hauled the things into the house, sure enough it took two trips each. The taxi driver drove off and Mark and I went inside and plopped down on the couch. I sighed and let my head fall over to him. "I'm tired."
"You slept most of the plane ride how are you tired?" I shrugged
"I'm always tired." He scoffed and we made eye contact. We shared a silence.
A good silence.
The rest of the evening we were in a good mood, we let our bags stay packed and off to the side, discarding them from our minds. We went to bed early, Mark going to his own room, me going to the guest room, as I were a guest.
The sun shone through the window and i stretched, all of the sudden I felt a weight shift at my side. Looking down I half expected to see Mark snuggled in beside me, but this hunk of blonde fur, was NOT Mark.
The dog stared back at me, watching my every move as it panted along. I grabbed my phone and checked the time "10:30, holy shit I really slept in" I started to panic over the time, the dog, and my job! I was going to be late!
Oh
Wait.
I don't have a job anymore, I quit.
I sighed and started stroking the dogs head lightly, letting it nuzzle into my hand each time I restarted. Eventually it shifted so it was laying across my stomach and gave me easy access to belly rubs, which I smirked at and accepted.
after a couple minutes more I gently prodded the dog off and got up out of bed, and made my way out of the room. It followed behind me, wagging its tail, it's tongue still lolling out of its mouth. I scoffed "Mark?" I called "maaaark!" No answer "I wake up to a dog and no Mark. Plot twist, Mark is the dog!" I said sarcastically, scruffing the dog behind its ears, it smiled up to me and then walked over to the kitchen, with nothing else to do I followed. It stopped by a bowl and I bent over, reading the name off of the food dish "chick-a? Cheec-a? Cheek-a!" The dog barked and I responded "are you hungry chica? Chica chica?" The dog did a circle in excitement, "where's your food?" She looked back to her bowl and nudged it with her nose, causing me to laugh lightly, "it's ok I'll find it." After searching about five minutes I found the massive bag of dog food and fed her. "Mark never told me he had a dog."
"Mark picked the dog up this morning." I heard a deep voice behind me.
"Jesus Mark!" I jumped slightly and he laughed "that wasn't creepy at all" I rolled my eyes, the sarcasm evident in my voice.
"Her names chica."
"Yeah I got that much." I crossed my arms.
"She's a rescue, I've had her for awhile but she was at a kennel while I was away, I went and got her around 8 after I was done unpacking." I widened my eyes.
"How early did you get up?" I let my mouth linger open in slight surprise.
"5ish, but that's normal."
"Gross I hate waking up early. How did you survive a whole 5 hours without me?" I pretended to pity him.
"It was hard, not gonna lie. I do wish I you were there." He said, half joking.
"I know something else that's hard and I could be there for." I winked at him and he scoffed
"Maybe later." And with a wink he turned around, "if you're lucky."
He did not just play that card.
